Amazingly, one of my neighbours doesn't lock her door, even if she goes out ... she thinks if someone is going to break in they will anyway and she doesn't want her windows smashed!

Not where I live now but it doesn't really matter anyway. I used to live in a rougher area and had several locks that were always locked. It only took one good kick to have 3 men with masks and guns rushing in. If they want in they will get in. The best thing to do is have an alarm that contacts the police for you.

We live in a small town, so I never used to lock the doors until recently. There have been a number of break-ins in our town within the past year... seems nowhere is safe anymore. Your neighbor is right to an extent because if someone wants to get in badly enough, they will find alternative methods to gain entrance.

I lock my doors at night. Especially after my doctor here told me to go out and buy a GUN! Thank you "down south" LOL! However, I am in a rural area, so I didn't really need the gun, so decided against it with three kids. But, still I am originally from Buffalo, NY, and I have just been raised to lock them.

Oh wow, bless her! Our door has a latch on so it locks even when you don't want it to, but I still double bolt it - it's not that I've ever been broken into before, but I hate the thought of someone else in my house, and the sound of breaking glass will hopefull alert someone to the fact that someones breaking in!

I always lock my door, as soon as I step in the house and close it, I automatically lock it.
I can't believe someone would not lock there doors, that's just asking for trouble.

Yes, the door is locked and a loaded gun is handy. If some one breaks in, they'll soon be as full of holes as Swiss cheese.

Yes!!! My husband or myself will always checks the windows and doors before going to bed! I think it was a habit we developed when the "Nightstalker" was roaming the streets of LA all those years ago!!
