It's not even close to the way it was. I have mellowed out a lot and nothing really bothers me anymore.

Well I haven't lost my sense of humor since I was a teenager.
But it has dimmed a bit. I tend to get more serious now than
I used to. But it's the after affects of a hard life, without the
happiness factor that everyone needs. And alot of that has
to do with family strife, and ill health that's fallen down upon
me these last few years. I always felt I'd be fairly healthy as
our family had been, until their last few years. And naturally,
being young back then, I felt nothing would happen to me.
Not that I was indestructable, mind you. But I felt lucky! But
Murphy's Law has followed me these last twenty years and
I'm learning that things won't get better, so I may as well learn
to cope better and try to get some of that old personality of
fun and laughter back. I used to be able to make people laugh
just to see a smile or a laugh back. Now I don't have the
quips coming to mind as they did back when. Oh I can still
bring alot of smiles, but I don't have the 'oomph' that I used to.
Well as far as that goes, I don't have oomph period. My oomph went out the back door some years ago. And they
call it, growing older. I've become the 'old fart' that I used to
tease my hubby about becoming. Is it just that some of it has
rubbed off on me?

I'm basically the same; independent, outspoken, caring, advocate for animals and the earth. Some things I've successfully changed. A lot of what was me then is me now. I think it's just the way I am. I found a letter recently I had written to my parents 30 years ago. I'd write the same letter today.
My behavior and skills have changed as I've learned more and become more confident. The basic personality, not much change.
I do think some older people become more irritable. I think it's partly due to some have more aches and pains that are irritating. Some are used to peace and quiet so a lot of chaos is difficult to adjust to. Can make one irritable.

Good Lord No...
Life is an adventure and is ever changing. We learn from our mistakes and grow. If we didn't life would be forever boring, don't you think.
Perhaps , your mother is in pain. Perhaps, she is worried that some day it will be next to impossible for her to remain independent. A lot of the problems we face as we age are very stressful, and sometimes, very embarrassing. Perhaps, the upcoming holidays are harder on her than when she was younger!
Why don't you sit down and have a conversation about it? Perhaps, there is something you can help her with, even if it's being a friend she can talk to.

I'm definitely not the same as when young. In some basic ways I guess its the same, ie I was always a shy kid, and I'm still fairly shy now. But....life experience changes you. Fifty -odd years, with all the experiences that you have, make you into a different person.
I'm now much more philosophical about life, and (I think) more able to talk to people, share my experiences, and step in to right a wrong than I ever was. I'm also less likely to tolerate bulls..t than before, and can say "no" to people who make demands on me.
If your mother seems slightly more irritable now than she was in the past, it may be that she has just "gone around the block" so many times , and seen and heard the same things, that she is a bit fed up with some aspects of life. Its quite understandable.

I really don't know - I do think I am sometimes 'bluer' than I once was - part of that has to do with just recently becoming a bit lonelier [live alone] something far removed from how I have been all these years!
I'm actually more patient and tolerant than when I was younger [a good thing!]
It MAY be your Mom is feeling less 'able', achey, or some other thing that is making her more irritable...or she may just need some thing to give her more pleasure and a sense of well being and usefulness...why not ask her?
I'm sure she'd appreciate your concern if worded in a caring manner. :-)
All in all when I'm up I'm still pretty much the same...guess that child within still speaks loudly to me! lol

Basically, yes, it is the same, except now I have experience to hopefully help me not make the same mistakes I made earlier in life. So far, so good. I'm kind of an easy going person anyway, and had such a low stress job most of my life that I didn't pick up the tension and frustration that a lot of people feel with work, thank goodness. Life has been very good to me, even though I have had some sad losses, I still feel that I am doing very well. I have my health and am happy with my life. Yippee!!!

I used to be what is called vivacious and out-going After high school, up until then I was very insecure. I think joining the Navy(Dental Tech) at 18 and getting out of my little town, helped me to gain confidence and see the world in a new light. Also getting a college degree was very helpful too in terms of growing more understanding myself more. I am still silly, goofy, and fun (when I am feeling well) or have had a couple of drinks which takes the pain away (but gives me a migraine so don't do that often! Unfortunately I am not vivacious on a daily basis, more quiet. I am certainly more comfortable with myself at this point in my life. I think we do change in that with all of life's experiences we grow and we continue to grow...OR not. I still think the way I did when I was 30 but am wiser. Maybe I refuse to grow up! lol! I think people when they get older either become bitter and cranky or decide to make the best of their situation and are happier for it. I try to be this person, but I must admit I do have my days. lol!
Maybe your mother isn't feeling well, or maybe she needs something in her life she doesn't have...maybe like needing to be needed. I know that when I do for others I get a joy from it. Maybe she just needs to have some fun. Talk to her, feel her out. God Bless our Moms!

I have mellowed about a lot of thing, but then I don't have to bring my children up any more, so I wonder would I be the same, if they were still young and at home?
Unfortunately my sense of humour and fun have STAYED as they were, and probably got worse/better, depend which way you look at it.
My ability to "put my foot right into it it", apparently has not changed. I will do some work on that.
My walk with God has become deeper.

They say that your personality develops by the age of 3. I was into dressing up and acting things out. I was pretty outgoing. I wanted to be a teacher or a movie star. Then things started to change when we moved, I was eight. I became shy and frustrated. Even withdrawn. I still liked to play with dolls and be a mommy. I spent lots of time drawing and coloring. I wasn't with the in crowd, but I belonged there. I spent a lot of time alone. Things didn't get back to who I really was until I grew up and got a life. I am back to being outgoing again, although I do have moments of silence. I have gone back to art and won blue ribbons. I love costumes. They allow me to be someone a little different for the moment. I'm still waiting to teach someone to sew. Most poeple like me and I like most people.
This is a very good question. It made me think. I'm giving you a star!!!

Yep, mine's changed. I used to be really outgoing, crazy and random when I was 3,4, and 5. Then I was very quiet, boring, and shy until about the age of 14, now I'm back to "outgoing, crazy and random". LOL I love who I am now, I wish I never got boring in the first place. It's no fun. =P I think everyone's personality changes in some way during their lifetime. I can't imagine that everyone would stay exactly the same their entire lives.
