Need help settng up a portable makeup station?

Question

I am trying to set up a portable makeup station in ym home. I am a makeup artist who works from home. But I dont have a spearate room to work from. I use my living room. the day time lighting is great but at night its awful. I want to set up vitalite fluorescent lights but i need them to be removabe. i live in a rental so it cant damage the walls. anyone have suggestions? a light on a stand? Or a tube that i can hang from my blinds? my livingroom is kinda open plan. one wall is all glass and the opposite side is the dining table. 3rd side has the tv and opposite is the sofa. I have a corner that has a fireplace and mirror above it. It has a mantelpiece which I think I can put the lights under. Its about 5' high.

The stand with lights looks great but it has to have vitalite fluorescent lights because they are the closest to sunlight and therefore the best lighting for doing trial runs for bridal makeup(which is generally daytime). Perhaps a fluorescent tube? that i can put at the window ad have clients facing it?

Hi Lila,
I don't know if this is the right kind of lighting but we use these portable lights that are on a tripod and are totally portable. They are not fluorescent but rather halogen and are pretty bright but you can get lower wattage bulbs. One thing I'd probably suggest; especially since you RENT, is to re-think the WHERE you want to engage in this.

I want to assume, and certainly might be wrong; that you have an area; KITCHEN/ Tiled/ vinyl/ which might offer more artificial light anyway, plus MAYBE??? not be carpeted?

I've been involved in theater for a million years and ON THE ROAD; make up areas are often poor at best, but the lighting might be better focused more directly on the subject; rather than as a WHOLE ROOM effect?

Stay in the living room if you like it. Buy a light that portable, and has great lighting. Go to Wal* Mart, and Its movealbe so you put the light were you want it.
