By Transvaginal Ultrasound a fetus and heartbeat should be seen during the 6th week of pregnancy. From your abdomen with the doctors dop-tone device it's about 10 weeks or more to hear a heartbeat

the heart doesn't start functioning until your 5 or 6th week. Even then it's almost impossible to detect for a few more weeks. You can't feel the heartbeat at all, unless you are very far along(like 34 weeks) and the babies back is pressed against your stomach. Most doctors can't hear the heartbeat with a fetal monitor until 9+ weeks pregnant. You are hearing your own heartbeat. Also babies heartbeats are much faster than ours.

I'm not entirely positive, but I know I didn't hear the heartbeat of my first born until at least week 16 or so. And I'm now 17 weeks with my second and still haven't heard the heartbeat.

No! You can start to hear a heartbeat around 12 weeks although you can see it on ultrasound as early as 5 weeks sometimes. You won't "feel" anything until 20-22 weeks.

The heart doesn't completely form and start beating for awhile yet. With all three of my pregnancies it took until about week 14 to hear the heart with the doppler.

No, its not.

13 days means the baby is the size of a grain of rice, and the heart beat hasnt even begun yet.

Well if you are on your 13th DAY then no way at all could you hear it, if it was your 13th week I don't think you could hear it yet ither. My OBGYN said you can't normally hear it untill at least 16 weeks, and some even after that.
