I have a new hard drive and comp usa installed the XP program for me when they replaced the drive I just recieved the reinstallation dics from dell will I have to format the hard drive or can I just run it? and will that repair any problems?

Insert, reboot and follow the Repair options.

Are the problems that you are having software related? As in Windows issues? Repair on XP is okay, but often times it runs for a couple of hours and fixes nothing. Manual repairs are easy if you have a specific error message or issue.

If this is hardware related, run your Resource CD in your system. The 32-bit diagnostics will start and will give you options to run various versions of the diagnostics (ie: Extended). Run the Extended test, it will take a bit but will show you any problems that might be on your system.

There are two repair options in XP. The built-in self repair is easiest to use. Here's how:
