WWE is the top dog as far as pro wrestling is concerned. Vince has eliminated most of his competition over the years, which leaves only TNA and other independent promotions. Its all about the money. If you can't make it in WWE, you go to the next highest moneymaker, which is TNA at this point. There really is nowhere left to turn for the bigger names especially. By the way, here is a list of just some of the former WWE stars who are now in TNA:
Kevin Nash, Scott and Rick Steiner, Dudley Boyz, Jeff Jarrett, Kurt Angle, Christian, Test
This is what leads the average wrestling fan to assume that when wrestlers ger fired they automatically go to TNA.

TNA isnt horrible
you are just used to WWE programming
granted they do suck now because they got their primetime 2 hour slot and are trying to compete with WWE for ratings
it used to be pure talent but now has sunk down to WWE standard
WWE wrestlers who get released go to TNA to stick it to Vince, bc TNA will eventually become a legit threat to WWE and those guys are being used more efficiently in TNA

Vinnie would have you believe they are "third-rate" once they leave WWE, but that's hardly the case now or back in the day. There are any number of reasons a wrestler will leave a company, but right now in WWE it is consolidation, with cutbacks the name of the game.
Talent are having contracts not renewed or are losing live dates, which makes staying with the company not wise financially.
Yes, Vinnie will try and bury the character, so fans will perceive he is a "stiff," but that has been his game since he took control of the company from his father. That is Vinnie's insecurity and smart fans must see through his game...as he hands the wrestler his last paycheck for doing the job.

Most of them like Kurt Angle, VKM ( The New Age Outlaws) and the girl Ariel go to the independent wrestling promotions then if TNA feels like they are good enough then they will aquire their contracts and give them new gimmicks. Like Kevin Nash and Scott Hall they were in WWE and WCW as a tag team but when they got in TNA they were giving heel and face gimmicks. A heel is a bad guy and a face is a good guy. Also if you are like Sting and Christopher Daniels they let you pick your own gimmicks. When Sting came to TNA he combined all his gimmicks from WCW and ran with it. Also with the female they are released from their promotions like OVW and WWe and DWS and the Japan promotions. Like Talia, Angel, and ODB are from OVW and Awesome Kong is from the indie promotions. Some of the Knockouts and male wrestlers are still wrestling in indie promotions and over in Japan. In the sources Kia Stevens is Awesome Kong. Also Shelly Martinez is Ariel. And ODB is Jessica Kresa.

Christian did.
I'd watch TNA on a regular basis, but the problem is is that I don't when it's on.
