Every body is asked at christmas time to give money to different charities ie children in need etc but wouldnt it be nice just to slip a fiver or a tenner into an old age pensioners hand and just say merry christmas ,.you know the little old man or woman you see on the bus or hobbling down the street who looks like he could do with cheering up .A total stranger of any race or creed. You wont miss it but youll feel good. as it is better to give than recieve.and you might just bring a little happiness into this miserable world,.

This has made me go all gooze bumpely! How kind, loving and makes me feel like there is some good in the world! I really do agree with this- and YES, i am going to do this!! Thank you for the great idea. When i do This though, i will only a little upset that i cannot see the face of the person when they open the envelope- and what i love about giving is the thanks you get. Giving turns out that it is quite selfish without even realising!!

I really agree with this to an extent that i think some kind of group should be set up, where we can all discuss different reactions- it would be fab!!

You are such an excellent human being for thinking this up in the first place.

-EDIT-
Since i answered this, i see many that i would love to lavish!!

I completely agree. Yes kids are important, but the elderly are forgotten all the time and many of them are very lonely because their kids and grandkids refuse to see them and their spouse may be deceased. It doesn't take hardly any extra effort to make them feel appreciated.

Pets really don't get that much attention either. You hardly ever hear about any charities for pets, at the holidays or otherwise, and yet many people think that any other than their own are expendable.

I analyze this the different day and that they suggested the final way of procuring for enjoying cards to learn charity became to surely bypass to a charity save that sells them, like Oxfam and so on. or purchase low-fee ones and supply what you preserve to charity?

My son and I just discussed this tonite!! I'd rather hand money personally to someone I know needs it then send a check to a charity wondering what percentage will go to "administration and management"!!

I work for a charity supporting really elderly people. I think you are stereotyping older people in a quite fundamental way. From my extensive experience (20 years), older people don't live miserable lives. They play a part in their local communities; volunteers, carers, getting out and about with their friends and families. Some are lonely, certainly, but in the UK, they receive financial help from the Government - fuel grants etc. If they are really frail, they can claim Attendance Allowance (£57.00 per week) on top of their pension and certainly wouldn't thank you for a £10 handout.

Sounds good however I am sure that charities like Crisis would prefer your time rather than your money.

Adopt a granny and invite them to dinner etc

With all the soldiers deployed right now we probably can find families to help right in our own neighborhoods this year and that way you know where your money is going. Great point you've made!
