I held and will sell when my sell rules say to. Picked up some high quality stocks today when they were throwing the baby out with the bath water. You will loose in the market if you do not have a system to buy and sell by.

Well, it wasn't all that much of a sell-off -- S&P 500 was only down 0.06%. Worse of course if you were deeply invested in small/tech/Nasdaq things.
I didn't sell a thing but was tempted to sell my SGP (+4.12% today) or a little bunch of CAR I have (+7.7%). Even more tempted to buy AIG which is undervalued and will make somebody money in the long-term. Perhaps tomorrow...

First, I have trained myself not to sell when there is a panic and not to buy when there is a big rise. So far, I have succeeded substantially.
Second, todate I have not succeeded in doing the opposites in buying when panic and selling when rising.

I didn't need to sell anything to day I would hate to sell when yesterday was down.
