Why do you think it was used more often and more successfully in the past than it is today?

Because nowadays filibustering is looked down upon by the voting population. In the past, it was an effective weapon against legislation that congressmen disapproved of, but now it's seen as a cowardly way of getting your issues through the house and senate. Public opinion morphs and changes over time.

I think it is more useful today. The Senators don't even have to actually filibuster. They just say the will. If the other side does not have 60 votes, the Senate treats it as a successful filibuster. The Senators then move on to the next order of business.

It's a form of obstructionism used in the Senate to delay the vote on a bill or prevent it from getting voted on at all. Senate rules permit a senator, or a series of senators, to speak for as long as they wish and on any topic they choose, unless a 3/5 of the Senate (60 Senators, if all 100 seats are filled) brings debate to a close by invoking cloture. It's one way that the minority party can delay or block legislation from passing.

A filibuster is the politicians equivalent of a little kid who knows he's wrong, but doesn't want to hear it..... and puts his fingers in his ears and says "LALALALA"

It just delays the inevitable.

Also in days of old parties try to work together but those days are long gone.
