I'm sure you've heard stories about dolphins saving people from drowning and shark attacks....
What is it that makes dolphins, unlike other sea creatures, sympathize with humans?

I believe that dolphins have and can express emotions, much like other animals. It isn't unheard of for a dog to rescue a kitten or for a gorilla to try to protect children. I think it is nature for most intelligent animals to want to protect and save each other, even if it is a different species. However dolphins have also attacked humans that they see as a threat (see forth source). Perhaps the dolphins that have saved humans had good interactions with them before, such as playful encounters with SCUBA divers, whereas aggressive dolphins may have been attacked or hunted by humans before? So be nice to the dolphins you interact with, it could be good karma for one day when you might need some help.

There are some who say that dolphins DON'T save humans -- at least not on purpose. They attack the shark because they don't like sharks. A dolphin might help a shipwrecked sailor find land -- but how many sailors have been taken AWAY from land by a dolphin? We'll never know.

However, I honestly believe that dolphins are intelligent enough to recognize another intelligent species (Man) and want to have a relationship with us and even help us. I went swimming with a dolphin once and he -- well, it didn't seem to me that he was just performing tricks. He seemed to really want to play with me! He also seemed to like the kisses and hugs I gave him. Maybe I'm just being overly sentimental, but that's what I believe!

I am not so sure that they are sympathizing however some food for thought...of ALL the animals in the world humans are MOST LIKE dolphins. Brain/anatomy etc. Maybe this has something to do with it.

Dolphins are intelligent beings. When they see another creature in need of help, they realize that and come help. Humans are the same way.

Yes, perhaps because they are so intelligent they know what it is to feel compassion. In this way they might well be the most spiritual of animals...perhaps even more they we ourselves!
It horrifies me to see how in certain parts of Japan Dolphins are cruelly and heedlessly killed!
How can they do it?....not to mention killing Whales ,too.

no longer basically dolphins do they care approximately better than people, yet all animals. once you have faith in evolution and legislate ethical that have us stay like animals, why does not you care extra approximately animals while it somewhat is strictly what you think of individual stronger from .

Maybe we smell enough like baby dolphins for them to think we're cute.

Why do we care about puppies?

I'm not sure, but I would imagine it has something to do with them being such social, intelligent creatures =)
