we were talking (i'm 16, and she's 20, both of us are waiting till mariage to have sex), but she said that birth control pills cause abortions, and also cause health problems, and that she wouldn't use any kind of birth control when she got married. i asked her if she seriously wanted 16 kids, and she said "so be it". who wants 16 kids just because you didn't want to use birth control? if they were all planned, then thats great, but just because you didn't use birth control? i want 5 kids, and i know i will use birth control at least one point in life, but still, why is my sister crazy? is there a chance that with no bc, she won't have 20 kids?

Yes
It took three years for my husband and I to get pregnant
I went to college with a friend, that her mother got married at 22, never used birth control, and got pregnant at 44. She was an only child
Some people who should never be able to conceive, medically, do. Some people who should have no problem conceiving, medically, ends up with not child

So she can end up with 20 children, she can end up with none
There are natural ways for birth control
Congratulations

Well, if she's prepared for the results of her beliefs, then good for her for sticking to her guns.

That said, I would highly recommend she get some education from professionals, because it sounds as if she's got some stuff in her head that's not technically correct. Birth control pills don't cause abortions - there is a "day after pill" that does, but this is not the same as the pills tha tyou take every day.

Also, her future husband may have a different perspective on things, which may cause her to change her perspective.

It's entirely possible to have zero children with no birth control. First of all, some people can never have kids. Also, if you're paying attention to your menstrual cycle, all you have to do is not have sex on certain days to avoid getting pregnant. You're really only fertile for a few days a month, so it's not too tough to avoid these days.

Maybe you should give her some info on hormonal birth control or even condoms--unless you are allergic to latex, there aren't any health risks there. There are other options like the rhythm method--taking your body temperature, knowing your fertile days, etc. that aren't 100% but at least can prevent some pregnancies. She's young though, she will change her mind. And you never know, she may be one of those people that has a hard time getting pregnant and may be lucky to have one kid. My money says she won't have 20 kids---whether she decides to use birth control or not.

Your sister doesn't have to take the pill. There are many other forms of birth control...the condom, IUD, Depo shot, spermicide, diaphragm.

The thing with these, except for the shot, is that none of them have hormones and that's beneficial for a lot of women. Besides, health risks are not that high, as studies have been done to "perfect" forms of birth control. Although there are risks, but they are low.

I understand your sister's right to deny birth control, but she should really think about the benefits vs. issues with having 16 kids. It can be very very expensive providing for so many children, not only to mention she'd need to spend individual attention to all, helping with homework, medical expenses. Just watch the television shows on TLC, one of the family's has 19 children and spends $200 a week on just groceries.

And her chances without bc of not having 20 kids? We'll she and her husband would have to be very very careful. :)

There are people who only have sex during their low fertility points during the month. It takes a lot of tracking and planning and is not 100%, but neither is birth control!

I would not worry too much about it. As she gets older she may change her mind. She will definitely change her mind after her first baby LOL. I don't think she will be prepared to have 20! Her husband may get a vasectomy when they have decided they have enough kids. If she is waiting until marriage to have sex then this is something she will have to plan out with her husband.

Your sister is wrong and obviously has read some false information. Birth control pills do not cause abortions and there are rarely any health problems from taking them. In fact, they can regulate your cycle and ward off some types of cancers. Find some credible information and give it to her. Hopefully she will change her mind. Birth control was invented and is used by millions for a reason.

theres always a chance someone wont be able to have children, as for 20 i do think that after the 4th or 5th she might think differently. She may need to read up a bit more on birth control, its rare for it to cause u to lose a baby as for birth defects, the whole point of the pill is to control whether or not u fall pregnant if she did happen to fall pregnant on the pill, it would be a smart option to stop taking it!

I know of a couple of families that did not use birth control and they have at least 12 kids each. She needs to marry someone that makes a lot of money. Nursing can suppress ovulation and cause the babies to be at least 18 months apart.

She's not crazy because I feel the same way she does. I am 22 and have never been on any kind of bc. I just never felt that it was necessary for me to take it. I am 22 wks pregnant with my first child now. So really any woman can control themselves and not because some guy says, I don't like the way a condom feels. They just want be getting any from me.

It sounds like the both of you need to do your homework on what type of birth control is available.
It's admirable that both of you are planning to wait until marriage that you have such an open relationship.
Your sister should do her research and find which TYPE of birth control is right for her.
