In 1681 King Charles II established Pennsylvania when he granted William Penn a land charter to pay off a debt owed to William's father.
William Penn named the land charter Pennsylvania, meaning Penn's Wood's, in honor of his father Admiral Penn ( Sir William Penn). It was settled in the late1600's by German immigrants, who were refered to as "Pennsylvania Deutsch ".
Later known as " Pennsylvania Dutch".
We never were part of New England.
Pennsylvania is called the " Keystone State " because during the colonial days, Pennsylvania was the " keystone " between the New England colonies and the Southern colonies.

William Penn. He was closed in Tower cause of his antitrinitarian faith (God is One and not Trinity). The antitrinitarianism was persecuted in all Europe. The only exception were Transylvania. William Penn decide to build a similar world founded on the freedom of faith and the religious tolerance like in Transylvania.
He named his land for a first Sylvania (the word mean forest) after in the honour of his father he called his colony Pennsylvania and gave religious liberty for everyone.
