It is generally believed by immunologists that the SIV disease in chimpanzee populations in Africa (which didn't cause illness) may have mutated when it crossed with SIV present in other primate species. It is then believed that when humans hunted, butchered and prepared the meat of these monkees for human consumption they became contaminated with infected blood products and eventually the virus was able to cause the HIV infection and subsequently AIDS in the humans.

"monkeys" didn't cause AIDS. I think it's like this: the disease came about due to humans meat from eating great apes; and b/c our dna and that of great apes is so similar...that's how it went down.

Some would like for you to believe that.
IMO, genetic experimentation produced AIDS as a weapon and it was released in Africa as a test which subsequently got out of control, or maybe it didn't get out of control. This might be just the planned sequence.

It's possible that chimps carried the virus and transmitted it to humans when they ate their meat.
