i have just installed ubuntu on my computer but i don't know how to get my usb wireless adapter to work. i have a trendnet TEW 429. i have never used ubuntu or any other linux before so i need very specific directions. My version of ubuntu is 6.06. Please Help!

If it doesn't work out of the box, you may need to use ndiswrapper to use a windows driver:

USB devices are generic in general, I encountered two chipsets in the devices I ever used, one is RT73 (regular 802.11g) another is Broadcom (proprietary enhanced) the regular as a driver rt73 the Broadcom needs NDISwrapper to adapt a Windows driver. Not sure the exact cmd for this.

But next part is using iwconfig, that easy
iwconfig interface essid Name
with another optional switch for the WEP encryption.
