The world has always had violence. I see that you emphasize "today", but I don't see how "today's" violence differs so greatly from past hatred, crime, and all negativity. Without giving hundreds (or the two or three in my mind right now...) of examples, just know that the world has become very compact. Technology has connected the world and news is flying! As for the media, the demand of deadlines effects the accuracy and number of sources of truth. The hate and violence today is the fight of good and evil that has been going on since the beginning of (religiously viewed or not) time.

It's not as bad as your perception....it's only that the news is now global and immediate. You hear about everything and anything that the liberalist newws coverage wants you to hear. They filter and shift the news to you as they see fit.
The more despair you feel and the more you "need" the government to help you with your problems the better. Once they have you totally reliant on the government and the socialist liberals...they can usurp all power for themselves and suppress you and force you to do what they want.
Think for yourself, learn to read between the lines and understand that liberty, hatred and crime all come from people who fear to lose power or fear the unknown.
Knowledge is power, and instead of fearing that which you do not know, learn from it, about it and understand it.
Then you can make an informed, intelligent decision about it, and not rely on others telling you what to think or how to respond.

Ancient Europeans wrote about Ages of Man.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_Man
There are also many other references to various
types of world ages or Ages of Man in Hopi
(worlds), Mayan (suns) and other cultures of
antiquity. Giorgio de Santillana, the former
professsor of the history of science, mentions
approximately thirty ancient cultures that
believed in the concept of a series of ages and
the rise and fall of history, with alternating
Dark and Golden Ages.
More details of these Ages are available in the
Yuga concept of the Hindus. The present age
is known as Kali Yuga (age of darkness).

I would argue that it's not only today's world, the human race has actually become less violent.
In addition, today the news reports bad things, crimes, pretty much only negative things.

Yes! "The only thing more infinite than the universe is human stupidity." Even though the universe is not infinite.
Most people are ignorant, narcissistic and just plain jerks.
