If capitalism is such a joke and communism is not how do you account for the vast disparity in standards of living and human rights?

Communism 'lost' the Cold War. In the case of the USSR, we spent them under the table on the Arms Race. China was a lot cagier, and has been /very slowly/ liberalizing economicaly ever since Nixon's visit in '72, for that matter. Since China has adopted so many free-market reforms, encouraged by trade with America, the US can claim a 'victory' in the Cold War, there, as well. But, the Communist Party still rules China, even if it doesn't rule over a 100% Communist China, anymore.
The general hope is that contintuing trade with China will eventually encourage it to abandon it's Communist institutions entirely, becoming a social-democracy much like Canada or Sweden - or America (though I doubt it'll ever become as politically devisive as America).
The Chinese, for there part, may well be planning to go along with it just until they become sufficiently industrialized to make a bid for global domination.

The large corporations are the ones in bed with Red China. Its all about the bottom line. Nothing more. If you want to make an impact don't buy from Companies that get their product from China. The downside is you will pay more for other alternatives. You willing to do that?

God you're stupid. Changes in China can only be brought about by free market reform. As China's people become more wealthy, they will demand more reform, more freedom, and more human rights from their government. Maybe you were sleeping when Hong Kong took over China in 1999. The effects of which are starting to be felt today

Capitalism is wonderful. Did ya ever think that possibly, our trade with China might move them towards more capitalistic ways down the road?

Don't you think it is the other way round that it is commie China financing the day-to-day running of the capitalist US government ? All I can say is China has beaten the US in its own game.

Sorta seems the general alignment doesn't it? Well with WalMart dealings with China bringing us tooth paste tainted with antifreeze and lead paint for our baby's...were protected from harm with the Patriot Act listening and watching our communications...right? Can't complain about Capitalism but it sure does rub me wrong when we fight communism and lost lives for importation of bad goods...

No we can't get along if socialism is your goal. Too much blood has been spent to make this a great nation, and to destroy it for such a stupid idea is no way to get along with me.

Socialism is a joke. If you want a socialistic society, go live in one. America will not stand for that.
