whts the name of the thing you put in the door for protection that it connect from the door to the wall with a chain and you can only use it when you are inside the house.

Hi Claudia,
I have read that these are not that safe - that once the door is opened someone can smash right through one of those chain guards. You might want to look at one of those eyepieces that you insert into doors. Or maybe both. Just a suggestion.

It is a chain lock. There are newer ones that also can be locked. Once the door is opened as far as the chain permits, you stick your hand in and use a key to unlock it. The chain and locking device drop out. You can lock it from outside by inserting the locking device upwards.
