I bought a $500 Acer computer package from Wal-Mart.

The LCD widescreen monitor (LCD 17" AL1702WVB 8MS 500:1 MPRII) that came with it was sent back because it had a green line, 1 pixel wide, running from the top, to the bottom of the screen.

Today I get a package from Acer. It is a completely new monitor. This one however is noT the same. It is not widescreen. It is a LCD 17" AL1717 FPDB 5MS 700:1 VGA & DVI MM TCO03. Note, the item # says "700:1" and the box says "800:1"

This new monitor does have some nicer specs obviously but I did like the widescreen. Also, this one has internal speaks, which is cool but the sound quality is kind of poor.

Should I call and complain? Should I stick with what I have?

YES call Acer back and tell them they need to send you the correct monitor. they can give you a reference code for UPS to pick up the package.
make sure they have the correct model and serial number of the original one.

ok, They do not have your model anymore. So they sent you the equivelant. Or did they? Most warrantess require the company to meet or beat "all specification" on the monitor. You paid for a wide screen and you should get a widescreen. All specifications should match or beat the original or you are being ripped off. This includes but is not limited to Resolution, size, type, response time, contrast ratio and features. I would call them and work with them to find a widescreen closer to you spect without going under. If they have to go higher while still mantaining the specs all you really have to loose it time. Or if your time is worth more keep it but this is not fair unless they replace it "Completely"

To me speakers built into a monitor are pointless. Any set of external speakers cosing more than $2 are going to sound better.

Should you complain? That is entirely up to you. If I had purchased something that I had decided was what I wanted, and then the vendor replaced it with something else - that was not better in ALL aspects, I definitely would be complaining. The only excuse I might accept is that Acer had stopped producing any widescreen displays.

You shoulda actually brought the monitor itself back to Wal-Mart. That woulda helped. I would say complain, because, there's not much Acer can do except say "We sent ya a working monitor, stop Bit***ing."

But, if ya want a flat panel, there's nothin a little complaining won't fix lol

Yes, you definitely want the widescreen -- there is a big difference when it comes to graphics and gaming -- you should get what you originally paid for or something better, not less.

Complain. You pay you say. You want what you originally bought. Ask for an explanation why you did not get what you were suppose to get. To top it off ask for compensation for all of you distress you had to endure. Call the compnay asap. Why you have time and if they want the wrong one they sent h ave them pick it up.

You should complain and get exactly what you paid for! A lot of times if something like this breaks you will get the newer model of that item and exactly what you paid for not some other version because its newer!

Get the widescreen back. They are typically more expensive.
