Can you feel every real contraction with your hand? Do they tighten all over the belly every single time? I have what I think are contractions but I can only feel part of my abdomin tightening. I don't feel tightening under my breast bone, but do all below. Especially below the belly button.

You will definitly tell the difference!!!

My first real contractions started in my lower back and were coming in waves. They will certainly increase in frequency an intensity, and when it hurts, you will know about it!!!

Good luck!!!

Real contractions are much stronger than Braxton-Hicks. They usually occur with increasing frequency as they progress (you can time them and they are relatively regular), and often increase in intensity over time. You may actually feel your 'real' contractions in your back (where you'll feel pain and stress). The entire abdomen will tighten in a real contraction, and usually even look a bit different as far as its shape, and yes, you'll feel it with your hand.

I say all these things are what you'll usually expect. I was in labor with my first having contractions ten minutes apart and had no idea until they put me on a monitor. My early contractions were painless, but I understand that was somewhat unusual.

While pregnant, your uterus will 'practice' and tighten from time to time. That's normal.

When I had real contractions it was only on half of my stomach (under my belly button) until I hit hard labor and then my whole BODY tightened LOL. You can feel your stomach harden with your hand yes. But the tie breaker is real contractions are usually at regular intervals and become stronger as time passed.

Real contractions felt nothing like cramps to me. Braxon Hicks were a painless tightening. Contractions are accompainied by a dull ache.

"Real" contractions feel like severe gas cramps or severe stomach flu cramps. They will also make your entire belly hard not just areas. Also, real contractions don't have to be regular intervals. Mine were 5 min. 7 min. 10 min. 5 min. They couldn't make up their mind. The way you can tell its real is by the severity of the pain with the contractions.
