I think that feminism can be taken to an extreme. And, there are people on both sides that have issues. I consider myself a feminist, yet, I am in a traditionally female profession (social work), and, I am at home with my children. Also, I prefer to have doors opened for me and would never be offended by someone doing so. When I was pregnant (and, I am pretty small so 8 pound babies made me look enormous), men constantly opened doors for me, offered to carry stuff to my car, etc. I think it was polite, and, appropriate. IT was fun to me to hear of their wife, sister, or daughter's pregnancy, because, when given the chance they would tell me. I think being able to do the things that we want to do is the key. I may not want to be a carpenter, but, I should definitely have the option to be one if I choose.

There are a lot of people who keep screaming that feminism is "man hating" foaming at the mouth, nonsense. They like to forget the fact that feminism is simply the idea that women are human beings.
Those who hate women want to make everyone think that feminism is something else.
Then there are women who have been brainwashed to agree that women are some sort of stupid, incompetent, lesser species.
It's sad that the basic idea has been lost in all the nonsense.

When was the last time anyone in the media had something good to say about feminism? or stated that feminism is needed? People believe what they hear. The right wingers get a lot of press for saying inaccurate to downright crazy stuff. So much for the so-called liberal media.

I don't know, really I can't understand. I made a similar question today, and as usual got some very aggressive responses.
Feminism is part of Gender Studies, as it is about the unfairness about any minority groups.
Feminism concentrates in unfairness about women, it is NOT that we forget about the unfairness of ALL humans. Each question concentrates in ONE theme, it is imposible to ask a question that takes into consideration, everybody. Therefore, if it is a feminist question it will be about: feminism, if it is about plants it will be about botanic...
I don't understand, there is a lot of misinformation in here. Whatever, I am up to the point of not coming back, why not some contributors google what the topic is about???
I am not referring to you, but to the "you know who"

Feminism should embody advocacy for woman’s social and political rights equal to men. In virtually all political movements, extremists exist in supporting the cause. The extremists are what some individuals associate with and stereo type Feminist woman as being bra burning, man hating beasts; which is unfortunate.
If it was not for such movements the 'Glass Ceiling' would be even more pronounced than it is today.

That's because many of them are too young to remember a time when women had few opportunities when they grew up and the biggest accomplishment they could make was to marry well. They don't remember being told not to take certain courses in school because they would not be able to get a husband if they acted too smart. They also don't remember a time when most companies wouldn't hire women, especially if they were married and if they did get hired, they were restricted to certain kinds of jobs and expected to quit once they did get married or reached a certain age. It's complacency on their part but the truth is many of these women are feminists even if they won't admit it. That's because they aren't looking for someone to marry right out of high school and they plan on going to college and having a career. If they truly were anti-feminists, they wouldn't be doing those things but instead looking for husbands to support them for the rest of their lives.

Feminism means women taking charge of their own lives. As we all know, this requires effort. It's a safe bet that the idea of effort spawns feelings of aversion in these women.

Because it makes some women feel bad or like they're betraying the sisterhood if the really do just want to stay home and take care of their man, cook dinner every night, do the laundry, and take care of their kids, and not be a corporate woman on top of it all. It makes some feel like **** for wanting to stick to the old ways in their own household, which is what feels comfortable and right to them.

You figure it out. The reason why feminism has such a sh*tty reputation is b/c of all you so-called 'moderate feminists' just idly sitting back and allowing those whack-job extreminists to hijack the movement.
So in light of that, can you honestly blame women if they act in horror or are aversed by your ideological alignment. I certainly can't.

There is good feminism and there is bad feminism. Good feminism strives for equality between men and women, bad feminism strives to reverse things and put women on top.
Bad feminism is usually the domain of angry, loud women and it tends to give feminism in general a bad name. It makes it more difficult for good feminists to make progress towards equality because it raises the annoyance of the men who would have to relax their grip on superiority for that to happen.
A certain amount of feminism is required in order to have a coherent push towards progress. I'm not sure why some women think that it's not necessary. Maybe they'll chime in here. Could be because they're happy being stay-at-home wifes, could be because they think that they can achieve equality without the women's mad march for superiority.
