Has anyone ever gotten a flu shot when they were pregnant? I heard that all pregnant women should get a flu shot and their children in the family should as well. Our family has never gotten a flu shot before. Has anyone had any reactions from getting the shot. Some people say that you can get the flu, at least some systoms from the shot. Thanks for the opinions!!

I'm 31 weeks and I had a flu shot at my last visit. I had never gotten one before, but my doctor recommended it. You don't want to get the flu while you're pregnant, and they wouldn't give you the shot if it were harmful.
After getting the shot my arm was a little sore for about two days, and I did feel a little icky the next two days - mostly just a headache and an overall feeling of achiness, kind of how you feel right before you start to get sick. It wasn't bad, I just took it easy those couple days. After that I was fine. You can't get the flu from the flu shot, it's a dead virus.

I'm 23 weeks and just had mine last week. Yes, you should get one. The pregnancy makes you more vulnerable to the flu and if it hits you, it'll hit hard, if you don't get the shot. I've had 2 flu shots in my life, with my first daughter and this one. By the way, you cannot get the flu from the shot...your arm will be sore at the injection site, that's all. The inhaled vaccine, which they do not give to pregnant women, contains live flu, which can get you a little sick, but the injection is NOT live, so you'll be fine!!!

I don't believe in the flu shot at all. Every blasted doctor pushes them damn things on us and to what end. I am 53 years old and the last time I had the flu was 15 years ago, when my kids where young. Now that they have all grown up, and out on thier own, the ability to get the flu is lower.

I read in some journal that as a person gets older, they are less likely to get the flu because there are only so many strains of flu virus around and once you have had one of them you gather an immunity to that particular flu virus.

I have also seen several of my freinds recently get the current flu shot and wind up in the hospital with a severe allergic reactions including anaphylactic shock.

In any case, I would consult with your doctor if it is ok to get the flu shot while your pregnant.

i was told by my doctor that is was def. OK and recommended that i get my flu shot... and i did...

the shot is basically a dead strain of the flu virus. the shot doesnt protect you from ALL the different kinds of flu's out there.
if you see a red mark, or any other reaction that is not normal with a shot... (and you can even look it up online) then def. consult the physician that gave you the shot
my job provided me with a shot (given by fairfax hospital) and even the doctor that came to give the shots says its best for a pregnant women to get her flu shot

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and recieved a flu shot at my last OB visit. My doctor highly recommended it. I had no symptoms from the shot. Getting the flu shot is a personal choice. If you are not comfortable getting one then don't. If your normally healthy I wouldn't get one. I declined one for my daughter because she hardly ever gets sick. I got one because I also have asthma and have already had a epsode that put me in the hospital early in my pregnancy. I hope this helps.

My husband and I both got one and we are fine. The health department here had a different shot for women who are expecting. Just let them know that you are pregnant and they will give you the appropiate shot. It is up to you, there are side effects ( I did not have any ) but the thinking is that your baby's immune system is not fully developed once he is born and you do not want to introduce anything into his system that can make him sick. My baby is due in December, thats why I did it. If he was going to be born after the flu season, i would have skipped it. I can handle the flu but my baby can't.

you cannot get the flu from the vaccine. it contains dead flu virus. if you are allergic to the ingredients of the vaccine, especially eggs, you will have a reaction to it. i got a flu shot since i will be delivering in january and my son goes to preschool with a bunch of germ infected little kids. not their fault, just the way it is. flu can be really bad for newborns and being pregnant and not being able to take anything for it would be horrible. my doctor gave me mine, so i think its ok.

I was able to get a flu shot during my pregnancy. I always feel a little tired and achy afterwards. I have been getting them every year for almost ten years now. Have not had the flu since I have started getting one. Always consult with your doctor though and make sure it is okay for YOU to get one. My doc recommended it and said it was perfectly fine. Congrats on your little one!

I avoided it with my first one, but the doctor gave me one for the second one. Since, my child gets together with a playgroup weekly I thought it would be a smart thing to do. I did get a cold after getting one, but my husband had that before I got the shot anyways. Good luck in your decision.
