I'm curious to what other people think of this. In my personal opinion, I don't see why it is illegal and believe it should be legalized. It is just like alcohol, it has all of the same effects except you cannot over dose on it. So in a sense it is actually safer than alcohol! People use marijuana to try and forget whats going on around them, to become numb, and partially stupid, to jut get into a better mood; just as anyone who uses alcohol does. So why is it illegal? What do you think?

Because the government does not need another substance screwing around with peoples minds like alcohol does. There would be another prohibition but alcohol is every where nowadays. You can't get rid of it but if the government could they would.

It is illegal because if it weren't the amount of people making tax free dollars from the stuff would go up 1000% within two hours of it becoming legal. The government can control the sale and distribution of alcohol. There is no way on this Earth that the same could be said for weed. The dealers would carry on selling the stuff but they would then be doing it legally.

This comes up here 10 times a day.

Try searching, you will find lots of enlightened answers,

Like me saying repeatedly that the heavy users who care the most, have proven to be too stoned over the last 70 years to get organized politically and get things done.

They can't even find each other on here, and you are everywhere! :)

And frankly, I would just as soon see it legalized, but I am starting to see this as funny in a funny-sad kind of way.

Organize instead of gripe! Almost every other special interest group has figured it out for 230 years, why can't you?

Well let's put it this way, I'd much rather be riding down the highway with drivers who are high than those who are drunk(if it had to be on or another). Alcohol is much more dangerous to your body than pot. If the government were to legalize it and regulate it and tax it our nation would be out of debt within a decade. Let's face it folks nobody gets high and beats up their wife or starts a bar fight like drunk people do. By the way if you have no experience using marijuana you should not be answering this question!!!!!!!!!!!

I believe it should be decriminalized. It is worse than alcohol but alcohol does seem to kill more people.
But marijuana is bad.

By keeping it illegal though, we are wasting a lot of money. We could save a lot of money if we decriminalized.
I support marijuana for medical use.

Well, it is true that it's pretty much similar to alcohol. But I don't see why we have to make another drug legal. It's bad enough that alcohol is legal. Not saying that I would make alcohol illegal, but I think that's enough. Alcohol hurts enough people as it is. So I don't see why it's necessary to make another drug accessible to more people. Also, I think that pretty much everybody who wants to smoke pot is going to smoke pot, regardless if it is legal or not.

Considering that 35 separate and unrelated studies in the UK have now linked marihuana use ( frequent to moderate meaning once a week to once a day) to adult onset schizophrenia I think that the idea of legalizing it would be cause for concern.

Legalize, educate, and regulate. I don't even touch the stuff, but I agree it would create more jobs, more economy, and close dangerous ties to countries where death occurs in relation to it's export.

I say make it legal.

I'm still uncomfortable thinking my dentist or surgeon may have just smoked a bowl before working on me though.
