I recently read an article about a study of teens playing video games. They expected to find a co-relation between the content (violence) in a game and the child's behavior - they didn't. Instead, they found that playing ANY video game only stimulates the parts of the brain dealing with hand-eye coordination (not without value), but leave unstimulated the part of the brain dealing with self control. This part does most of it's growing up to 20 years old. So kids playing violent or nonviolent video games became less able to control their emotions when things set them off. Giving a child a board game or math homework or sent outside to play baseball or with toy trucks all helped stimulate the self control part of the brain.
As I remember, prior to the invention of video games, ALL little boys played some form of violent "make-believe" games. War, cowboys and indians, cops and robbers, etc. We all had guns, and we pointed them at people and said "Bang! You're dead." And it did not result in the teen violence that we have today.

I don't think violence has anything to do with video games, movies, or music. It has everything to do with how people are raised or the morals they are given by their parents. I feel kids become who they are by how they are raised. If a child only sees violence either from video game or their own family then that is all they know. If a child understands the difference between right and wrong then the video games and movies should not affect their judgment. I know you aren't asking about how it affects children, but in my opinion that is where it starts. There are those few people who are probably inherently bad regardless of the upbringing. Those people are few and far between, and probably aren't violent because of video game or movies.

there have been study (i'm too lazy to Google it for the sake of a Yahoo question, yet once you're involved then you definately definitely can) that instruct violence is definitely reducing because of the fact the launch of the 1st video game consoles. They have not typical a particular reasoning or clarification (it could desire to be coincidental) even though it of course makes the argument against weapons invalid.

Yes it plays a role in it. The kids home life, such as parents, friends also play a role in it.
