i really dont look at this as they have to have one or the other. Even if for some reason the sox cant resign Lowell I would still not want them to go after Arod. I would rather move Youk over there and get a 1B or play friggin alex cora at third then sign Arod. And i dont think Arod wants any part of Boston either. He has learned his lesson. He is a loser and cant get it done in situations that matter. he will find some mid market team that needs a ticked draw where he can quietly put up huge numbers duringthe regular season and not have to worry about winning or the playoffs.

I can't believe people are actually debating this one. It's a no-brainer: Re-sign Lowell.

1) I think everyone is overlooking Mike's 2007 stats: .324 average, 120 RBI, 21 homers.

2) I'll take Lowell's glove work over A-Rod's at 3B any day. A-Rod belongs at SS, though he's a little bigger now.

3) For $350 million, A-Rod will get you to the post season. Then what?
In the post season since 2005: 12 games, 44 AB, .159 avg, 1 hr, 1 rbi.

4) Mike Lowell in the post season 2007: 14 games, 51 ab, .352 avg, 2 hr, 15 rbi, World Series MVP.

Lowell is the choice. Fans and teamates want him. As far as Arod at SS goes. you need more than talent to win. Signing one guy like him will sour the team. He does not fit. He is the younger version of Barry Bonds.

Lowell for team chemistry and sanity..A Rod if you want to distort focus and turn on a media circus. Short term keep Lowell, but A Rod is so tempting for long run..post Manny and Papai...Papelbon will be the resident flake..hope he doesn't pull a John Rocker, but I see the light in those eyes and know he is capable...

It doesnt matter who has better numbers at the plate. Lowell is just as good maybe even better to me. The Red sox cant afford A-rod so why would they sign him. They will sign lowell pretty sure of it. If they dont they are pretty stupid.

If i were the Sox i'd keep lowell..........he's obviously good in the postseason and that is what this team is going to need b/c they are (unfortunately) going to be a team that will make the postseason a lot if they play like they should.....a-rod is too much money............
