For someone that suffers chronic constipation just adding prune juice alone isn't enough.

The entire diet needs to be looked at, including hydration of the body.

What alot of people fail to realize is, although fiber is necessary to achieve regular bowel movements, fiber also requires more water as it absorbs the water after you eat.

By this point in your friends life I'm certain she knows of foods that cause her body to be constipated.......avoid those foods completely.

Her diet should be high in fruits and vegetables........even dried fruits are good (with extra water).

Only whole wheat or other grains with the husk, she needs the fiber. So for instance if she chooses to have porridge, don't buy the 3 minute kind, get the whole oats and make the porridge perhaps with apple and raisins.

Banana's and dairy often are constipating so if they cause constipation, avoid them.

Keep the meat down as it's very slow to digest and not needed. Most women only need about 3 - 4 ounces of lean meat a day, Fish is great, chicken without the skin or turkey breast without the skin is good. Red meat occassionally is ok.

Each meal needs to be primarily vegetables, keeping the starchy vegetables to a minimum. Sweat potatoes or yam might be a better choice say than a regular potato.

Corn tends to be constipating.

White Rice, white bread or anything with white flour is totally out of the question, very constipating, in fact like concrete in the gut.

I like to add nuts, 6 walnuts prior to each meal helps add the essential fatty acids (but the nut can not be dry roasted and salted) You want naturally dried nuts, they still taste great.

Occassionally a person will get the urge to go after a cup of coffee......new studies suggest that 1 to a maximum of 2 cups of coffee a day can be beneficial because of the antioxidants and because it does help many many people become regular.

Honestly, medication is not the answer, it's all about what we put into our bodies on a dailly basis.

AND, eat regular meals, don't skip, help your body adjust to your diet with no surprises.

Hope this helps.

Best Constipation Cures

This definitely is not something that should be ongoing. It needs to be addressed by a competent physician. She should not be experiencing this type of problem. My little girl is 6 years old and she doesn't have the severity of problem that you are dealing with, but she does have problems with constipation at times. Have you tried the fairly new product Activia yogurt? It seems to work great with my daughter and she loves it. It is somewhat expensive at the grocery store (2.40 for 4), but I found a 24 pack at Sam's Club for $6.75. Either way, it is well worth it if it works. I do not see any contraindications in using it for hr age. Enemas, suppositories, and treatments as such isn't appropriate to use as`often as it seems like you are having to. A product we use in the hospital is Miralax. Check with your doctor FIRST, to see if you can use this. It is available over the counter and trust me,IT WORKS. Just see if it is age appropriate. Good luck, and please find a doctor that will seriously address this issue.

The product that I have used is called Oxy-Powder, which is an oxygen based intestinal cleanser. The product converts all your compacted fecal matter from a sold form into a liquid or gas. Your bowel movements will be very liquefied. The movements are very much like diarrhea, however, there is no risk of dehydration. Because, this is not diarrhea which is caused bacteria or viral infection and it also pulls water from the body. Your frequency to go the bathroom will increase. You might also want to add a probiotic to your regimen. I hope this helps you to achieve your goals to healthier and happier you.

Eating 40 to 50 prunes a day for a few days should help.

Small amounts such as 10 to 20 prunes a day is probably not enough.

If diet change and OTC medications don't help, she may want to see a gastroenterologist or a colon & rectal surgeon to investigate the problem. They may suggest a sitz marker test to check transit time thru the colon. If it is slow there are medications like Miralax or Ametisa to improve the condition. If the transit time is normal, the is a series of tests they can do to check for pelvic floor dysfunction which can cause chronic constipation. Hope your friend finds some relief...It's no fun!

Fiber Sure, a couple of teaspoons added to morning coffee or tea is the best thing for constipation and it has so many health benfits as well. If it works for her she should make it part of her regular routine.

Senna tea.

I would recommend the change of diet, though. She should eat 50-60% raw food, as raw vegetables and fruits. That would help!
