my fiancee wants to go to vegas for her birthday. its supposed to be her and her sisters going. but to me, i just dont think we can afford it. especially if you want to gamble. Maybe im just being cheap. but i hate the idea of gambling. i mean you already spent money with the hotel and air fare. now you have to eat and shop. then on top of that, gambling your money away. i just dont see the fun in that. lets be honest. even though they are other things to do. i know my girl. she is going to want to gamble. why not go to new york and go shopping? at least you will have something to show for your money spent.

You don't have to gamble to have a good time. There are so many other things to do in Vegas. The shows alone are worth the trip. Shopping is some of the best in the country. And besides, it a great place to get away and relax.

She does need to set a limit on her gambling. And she needs to stick to it. I found 50 bucks a day to be plenty, and I just was there a couple of weeks ago.

Vegas is an inexpensive place compared to NY.

Greasy Tony said something that really makes sense. I played the penny slots only. between 9 and 30 cents a play.
I had a lot of fun with them, only played nickle machines once.

Gambling is entertainment, and it needs to be viewed as that. It needs to be stressed to her that she will NOT win.

Play for fun, there is so much to do besides gambling.

No matter where she goes she is going to eat and shop. Cheaper in Vegas and safer than NY. Gambling doesn't have to be expensive. There are so many different machines. So much to see and do she won't have a whole lot of time to gamble ... besides ... you actually think she will gamble more than she can spend shopping? Anywhere you go there are ways to blow your money ... that is why people go there in the first place. Give her a budget and let her have fun. Besides they meet some guys that will pay for everything and not care about how much they spend gambling.

to clear up a few things....
you can go shopping in las vegas. we have two outlet malls, and many of the casinos have malls inside of them, plus other shops not in the malls. very good shopping here.
prostitution is illegal here. in fact it is illegal in the entire county.
(you didn't mention it, someone else did)
but.... maybe you two should decide on a spending limit before she goes. (you said it as her and her sisters, right?) las vegas can be very expensive if you don't pay attention to what you spend. drinks are free when you're at tables and slots, all you do is tip the waitress. and slots can be played veryyyyy slowlyyyyy. especially quarter or nickel ones. there are lots of cheap but good places to eat in las vegas, even on the strip. i think the two of you could work something out.

and i don't think it's a waste of money for everyone. some people think it's a great way to spend money (personally, i would never have come to las vegas if i didn't have to because of the military) but my idea of good money spent might be a waste to someone else. if it will make her happy, maybe it's not a waste

i love vegas. me and my g/f go once a year if we can. we spend 300-400 each to fly and stay out there in a huge hotel for 3-4 nights. then we also bring $300 to gamble with and eat, etc. We find the cheap tables, since its during the week, go downtown to gamble as well...1 year i won and came back home with those 300 dollars so the shows, meals, beers, tips were all paid for. next year my gf won 200 and I lost all 300 =(. so we had a blast, drank and ate till we couldnt anymore and had a blast for 3-4 days for only a few hundred.

Ok first of all, if you're going to away then don't be cheap about it. Second of all, you don't HAVE to gamble in Vegas. I've been to Vegas 6 times and gambling is the last thing I think about. You can shop just as well in Vegas as you can in NYC...and frankly it would be cheaper. Let her gamble with her own money.

I've been to Las Vegas twice. I don't gamble either. I go for the magic shows. Ask your girlfriend what she wants to do. Buy tickets in advance. Las Vegas is definitely NOT a waste of time. In a couple of years I'll go back again.

It is her Birthday and that's what she wants to do.
Maybe make an agreement to how much she's going to gamble. There are a lot of other things to do becides gambling. I only gamble on penny slots, and just drink the rest of my money away.

I agree with you, I think gambling is a waste of money. I have been to Las Vegas a few times and have found lots of other things to do. Seeing all of the hotels, people watching, etc. However, members of my family wouldn't dream of leaving the casinos. Good Luck with whatever you all decide.

I agree with you.
This a place for gamblers.
Even though you can just check out the hotels and shows, the idea and main purpose of this town is gamble and prostitution, and it is promoted very openly with the phrase "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas".

Usually (with some exceptions) people go to Vegas to gamble, drink, have an "adventure" etc., that is the marketing strategy and it works.
I don't like it either, and as you say, I would prefer New York City.
