It's not the clearest photo but I was a little nervous as he already fell on me once when I was using my phone to take a photo. Needless to say I grabbed my digi so I could keep a little distance. As long as he's not poisonous, I don't mind him being there. He's webbing my window! I think spiders are awesome I just need to make sure he isn't going to hurt my kids.

Thanks hopeful, I googled jumping spider and that's what it looks like.

Thanks A.Mercer, great info and links.

And thanks Tamarack, that is such a good idea. I will definitely do that (even though I already know).

That looks like a little jumping spider. They come in all sorts of sizes and colors. They are pretty fun. Some of them will even tolerate people getting close to them. Sometimes, they will let me pick them up but most of the time they just try to get away from me.

They are not dangerous. I would not suggest the kids try to pick him up though. They can bite. All spiders have venom/digestive proteins that they can inject in a bit, but this one is not dangerous. It is just painful. Besides, the spider is working to eat the bugs that might otherwise be annoying you.

Can't tell you if it's poisonous or not but this would be a fun thing to do with your kids....try to research and find out what kind it is. Then learn a little about it.

If you live in the north of the USA it's most likely not poisonous. If you live where it's warm all the time the chances of it being poisonous are greater.

Looks like a jumping spider. There are many variations of it. Probably harmless and will eat other insects that will inevitably enter your home...

If you must know EXACTLY what it is. try to look up common spiders in your area and then image search them until you find a match.
