Maybe a demo, not sure, I think Fogelberg sang on it but not the lead.

The primarily classical album "Twin Sons Of Different Mothers", featuring the instrumental help of wind instrument expert Tim Weisberg, was out in 1978. Twin Sons only featured three songs with words (Judy Collins' "Since You've Asked", Graham Nash's daunting "Tell Me To My Face", and Fogelberg's own "Power Of Gold"). In fact, The Power Of Gold was the only song intended for radio and Fogelberg initially did not intend to tour in support of this album, opting instead for a vacation in Europe until CBS/Sony called him and told him the album went Top Ten.

The Fogelberg song from Souvenirs, "There's A Place In This World For A Gambler", also was re-released in 1978 on the smash soundtrack of the movie "FM".

None of the lyrics from the four songs above are close to that lyric, which seems to suggest that Fogelberg was busy enough without anything to do with that song; but if it's a CBS/Sony demo it's still a possibility.

The song is actually older than that.It was apparently never released but was performed live at the Exit Inn in Nashville tn. Several local radio stations would occasionally play it. Search Natchez Trace You Owe it To Me and select the 4:03 version. The first 13seconds suck its an old recording.Allegedly,a young and not yet discovered Dan Fogelberg is the piano player. Hope this helps.
