First thing, don't feel bad about it. It's natural to back slide. Now you can do one of two things. You can move on and continue quiting. It will be difficult and willpower will be sorely tested. Find other things to do with your hands and mouth. Some form of hand exerciser, a ball that you can bounce or catch, gum, sunflower seeds, those kid of things.

Or you can resume smoking, do some research on effective methods and set a new date to quit. One of the most effective I've heard of is the mason jar. You put half a cup of water in the bottom of a quart jar. For a week every cig you finish goes in the jar. Next week every normal time you smoke (when you wake up, after supper, the set things that you associate with smoking) you open the jar and take a sniff first. All cigs you smoke still go in the jar. Week after that you start with your quit date (very important, put it on the callendar weeks before) and you open the jar and take a big whiff before every cig. The smell after two weeks of saving butts puts you off.

Both ways have their benefits pick what feels right for you. Good job with the first 4 days. I found day three really tough. If you go with the second option make the stop date within the next month if you can, or right after new year might be good, but pick it as soon as you can.

I tried to quit not long ago, and actually did for 2 weeks. After that, my wife couldn't take it anymore and wanted to smoke, so we bought one pack together. After that we began to gradually smoke more and more, until now we're at the same pack-a-day habit that we previously were.
Yes, I felt bad for lasting that long and then going back, but I also know now why I started back and what it will take to quit for longer (or for good) next time.
I wouldn't be so hard on yourself, because not many people manage to quit for the good on the first try. Just learn from this experience and then with support next time, try again when you want.
There's no shame in failing, only in not ever trying!

i never used a patch or a gum.
i just got really low on money haha.
i was trying to budget and i realized.. instead of buy a pack every so often.. i could be.. eating lunch for once.
haha.
after i got back on my feet and my whole money situation was figured out... i bought a pack.
it wasnt the same.
i really hated it.
it hurt my throat.
it made me stink.

i didnt realize how much healthier i felt for quiting.
and i saved so much more money not buying them.
think of how much youll save that you can buy on anything else you want to.
if you smoke 10 a day youll go through at least 5 packs a week.
depending on what brand you can be spending about 25 dollars a week on ciggs.
every week you spend 25 dollars you could be spending on something youve always wanted.

thats how i think of it. and now i save up to fix up my car.
good luck!!

I've known people who tried, failed, tried, backslid, tried, went back, tried, and finally succeeded.

If you want to quit - never quit quitting.
