You can't.
Using CSS, you can prevent the tiling, by setting repeat = none (or similar: check the CSS background functions at w3schools).
Your only way is to make the picture BIGGER than ANY screen resolution, like 2000pxl horiz (1400 is the mas nowadays, but not many people use it), and 1700 vertically (if you do not have to scroll).
HOWEVER...
Using a large image for background is a very bad idea: it takes a long time to load.
You are better of with one narrow, very high JPG file and let it repeat: this will give you a "pattern" of bkg that loads fast.
Never forget: your index page must load in 2 to 5 seconds, or you loose the visitor! And in these 5 secs, you MUST attract the attention of your visitor, so HE STAYS!

I know that when u use photobucket, you can use the picture for a background on myspace. that will enlarge it and u can use ot like that. and best of all photobucket is free
you can use there pics or your own personal photos

Open Adobe Photoshop, and change the DPI to 1000x2000. That will make it HUGE.
