It is called mutilation in my eyes (I am "uncut" or uncircumcised), as well as my three boys. It is not a matter of hygiene as one respondent mentioned, that has been disproven. It does relate to Jewish customs, however remotely, as another response indicates. The practice of circumcision developed & prospered in the United States with the Baby Boomers generation. Europe is approximately 85-90 percent uncut. Why is that? American doctors did this for a number of reasons. They usually charge an extra fee to perform it. They "harvest" the circumcised foreskin and use it for medical research, skin grafts, & receive more money in return for providing it (double payment) & there are a multitude of other reasons I won't get into here (otherwise this answer would be quite lengthy).

I'll leave U with this thought: If God made us in His image, and He is perfect, why then do doctors think it necessary to mutilate male (and female) bodies by performing circumcision? Yes, it should be illegal -- have U ever heard a newborn baby crying out in such anguish & pain -- do U think it hurts?

In addition to the hyperlinks I have provided below, there is a book ot called, "Circumcision Exposed --
"Rethinking a Medical and Cultural Tradition" by Billy Ray Boyd, that should shed some light on male & femal circumcision. I hope this information helps you and anyone else contemplating the decision to circumcise their baby. This really needs to stop! God Bless you!

Only in the Jewish faith (as far as I'm aware) is it religious custom to circumcise male babies. In other cultures with was a commonly accepted practice related to hygiene as the foreskin can trap dirt and bacteria and cause infections if not cleansed properly. This practice was more common to desert cultures where water was scare enough as it was. Safer to circumcise than waste drinking water to clean the organ. In today's society, it's just accepted as the thing to do whether there's reason to or not. Some choose it for the aesthetics (as circumcised is all they know).

Personally, if a boy is taught from a young age how to properly care for his penis, I don't see why it needs to be done in the first place. If I was to have a boy, I already know I would never circumcise my son.

We had our son circumsized because there is a less chance of infections. If you do not you have to take more care of keeping his private area clean. It is not just about religion.

That's a Jewish thing from the old Testament of the Bible, Jewish people may still do it, I don't know.
God doesn't want that skin, leave it on baby.

Are you talking about circumsition? If so, I had my son done because of hygene. I didn't do it out of religious beliefs.
