A friend of mine has been with his girlfriend for 3 months. While tracking his geneolgy he found out that his girlfriend was his 5th cousin. Is there anything wrong with this? Would it be illegal if they got married?

No incest and no legal implications on marriage.
My aunt and uncle found out the decent from the same man My aunt from his first marriage my uncle form his second However this was 7 steps away from them No worries there.

1st cousins are even OK though not recommended. 2nd cousins are far enough away to be completely OK In small villages everybody is often related in the 3rd or 4th degree and has been for centuries

Third cousins at or less count legally after that it is a free for all. There is nothing illegal about marrying a 4th or 5th cousin.

The bloodline exists, but is removed enough that none of the bad genes of brothers and sisters will cause birth defects.

Take care,
Troy

It's not illegal at all. It's mostly illegal for first cousins, and sometimes for second, but after that it's legal. The amount of the same blood within them is very little so it's doubtful they would ever have any problems. Besides, they've only been together three months, whose to say that they'll stay together. If anything it might just freak them out on their own.

That's so far apart genetically, he might as well be dating the Queen of England.
There is nothing wrong with it, and it is not illegal anywhere in the USA - or Europe, or South America, Australia, I'm not sure about all of Asia, or Africa, but not in most countries there. If you have to do research to find out if you are even related, I think it's probably safe.

no; in most states, up to a 2nd cousin is considered incestual. Think about it: 5th (even 4th) cousins are really quite far removed from each other. They can legally get married.

Relax. A 5th cousin is not an incestuous affair. Most states legally draw that line at third cousin-so anything past your second cousin is fair game. Git 'er done!!!!

In every state you cant marry your third and even in some states you can marry your second cousin. Not to say I would but If they didnt grow up together and new eachother that way I dont know I dont see much wrong with it. The blood lines so deluted theres not much there.

Yeah, 4th and 5th cousins are very far down the line. Not incest. It's fine.

Theres nothing wrong with it becuase the blood line is so far out it would be difficult o even prove them as cousins. It not illegal. Third cousing and less is what is considered illegal in most states. So they are fine. Itsj ust the idea itsef that would probably freak anyone out, but there is ntohing physically wrong with it, if kids come into play they will turn out perfectly fine... so they are good.

Did you know that Eleanor Roosevelt never had to change her maiden name? That's because it was Roosevelt. She married her 5th cousin...It's only legally considered incest if you were sleeping with someone who was closer than your second cousin in the United States.

They're fine
