in Stephen Fry's novel 'Making History', a time traveller stopped Hitler being born (I think, it's ages since I read it), only for an even worse dictator to emerge, I think that whatever you do, someone is always going to think that they have a God given right to tell others what to do.

I would kill the first person that committed murder, so that murder was never invented. Hey, wait a minute, that means I would have invented murder.

Maybe we shouldn't play with history. The future is terrifying enough without tinkering with the past and not knowing what would happen down the line because of it.

I mean, the person I kill might result in me not being born, because of something that person did that lead to a chain of events that stopped my parents from ever meeting.

Now I'm wondering if that would be good for mankind.

Because I might become the type of historical figure that someone travelling back in time might target, if they are given a time machine, a weapon and the chance to kill just one person from the past.

Then my kids wouldn't be alive!

Make it eeeeeeeeend....

How do I teach to the police that I knew that interior the destiny he'd kill 10 human beings? i might seem insane and get locked away for existence. No, i would not pass to reformatory for 10 random strangers.

im not sure that this COULD benefit the human race. It's the whole butterfly effect, by killing someone in the past you would make huge waves that could have drastic repurcussions. I suppose you could really only do it if you were certain as to what the future effects would be.

That would cause a 'Chronoclasm'.

Time would re-make itself from that point.

Perhaps even to the fact that World War 3 would have come and gone and nothing left.

Not even the Time Machine or it's maker.

OK - I'm sure I'll get lots of thumbs down for this - but I would go & find the first person that decided religion was worth fighting about & kill them.
I WOULD go & kill all the principles of the religions - but with only one chance....

The obvious answer would be Hitler, but knowing the way humankind works there would always be someone else that is harmful to humankind or would use power for their own beliefs, pleasure etc..

Milton Friedman. Without him an awful lot of financial and economic misery would have been avoided.

Hitler. Even before I saw your suggestions, he came straight to mind.
