I know there are buisness ethics, but aren't there laws that prohibit bosses from demoting employees and giving that position to thier friends? This happened in a major franchise, not a privatley owned buisness. The friend has no prior expierence in this company, and this particular position is more corporate than part of the individual store. This is one of many "questionable" management decisions... I would just like to have accurate facts. Thanks.

There might be a violation of corporate policy and procedure. Try reporting this to the internal audit department.

Violations of internal controls compromise compliance with SOX legislation so there could be an indirect violation of law. Hiring must follow internal control.

Again, contact the internal auditors.

Yes they can. All they need to say when asked about it is that their friend is more qualified than the person in question. It really sucks, but there's not a whole lot to be done if you're not willing to kiss the prerequisite amount of ***. People in authority lie. And they love to surround themselves with cronies. If you areat "at will" employee, e i , are not protected by a union or employment contract, you can be demoted or terminated at any time, for any reason, or for no reason at all.
