I recieved a threat over myspace?

Question

A boy who I used to attend school with sent me a threatening message over myspace. Here's an excerpt:

" i don't care if i end up in jail. i will beat the **** out of you , maybe even kill you. you won't even see it coming. i suggest you take back those things you said about me, because i have friends in low places and they don't have anything to lose. they will kick your ***, and if they want, they'll finish you off too."

How do I respond to something like this? How do I go about telling the authorities about this, is it an offense of some sort?

What I said really wasn't that bad. He has been picking on my friends for a while now, so I sent him a message saying

"Take that stick out of your *** and leave my friends alone."

Should I take it back?

Print it out and take it to the police...they'll file a report and that's about it. That way, in case anything does happen, they have that record. I would watch my back, also. You never know what a person is capable of. I know this from past experiences. And, I'm not saying that you deserve this threat in any way, shape, or form, but just remember that everything we do and say to people can come back to haunt us. Always treat people with respect, because you don't know what they could end up doing. Good luck to you!!

first you need to tell someone you know. not that anything will happen but in case something happens they know where to look first.
contact myspace IMMEDIATELY and send them the exact message so they can take the appropriate measures.
if you feel comfortable telling your parents TELL THEM, then go to the proper authorities to get a record or report of this.
maybe you should just tell him u take back what you said (whatever it was had to be pretty bad to make him this mad, or he is just that messed up in the head)
do not take this lightly! threats all the time are ignored and people regret it all the time!

Block the user, don't respond directly to them. And contact the authorities. Most states have enacted laws where they can prosecute individuals who make online threats.

If you have the messages print them out and call the police.

Call the Police and have them deal with it.. and threat is a crime (felony I believe) and you have it in writting...

Ha, people make threats on the internet all the time. Threaten him back then block him. I mean, anyone who has to talk about his FRIENDS beating you, and not himself, seems like a b*tch anyway.

You don't respond to it. Save the msg. If anything real comes up, THEN go to the authorities. Chances are, this guy won't do squat. When you plan on hurting someone, you don't let them know, you just do it. He sounds like a troll trying to scare you.
