80 year old woman starts blasting heat with windows open because she got free oil from the state, ever hear of
anyone doing this?
She was able to scam the state into thinking she was low-income, and the day they came and filled her oil tank, she opened all the windows and blasted the heat! And kept checking the gauge on the oil tank to see how fast it was moving.
Prior to that, she would put tape over her thermostats so no one could turn up the heat!
Is it common for elderly to do things like this?

I don't know if that's common for elderly people but if I had free heat, I'd open the windows in the middle of winter and blast heat. What better way to speed up global warming?

Well, I don't know about this situation...
BUT, I've opened my window in the middle of the winter. My landlord (lives downstairs) has control of our heat and it's included in our rent already. So sometimes in the winter it gets way too hot so I'll crack a window open. I guess it's wasting heat, but if I don't have control of the thermostat and it's getting too warm, I have to do something.

it doesnt matter if someone paid for my heat or not... theres a reason why its on and thats because its cold outside so if the heat is on then it means that its too cold to open the windows... as far as the old lady, if this was a yearly thing then call the state and tell them that the windows are open all the time it soulds mean but its you tax money that is paying for her heat, a waste huh?

What a terrible thing to do!
I opened my windows last night becasue I was frying fish and the smell was all over the house. So I turned on the exhaust fan and placed a fan in the window.
That is only because the fish smell was everywhere!

My heat is paid for, included in the rent I pay.
This is just another reason why rent keeps going up and the value of the dollar keeps going down.
Think about it people. Use what you need, don't waste the natural resources that we will need in the future.

for one she is elderly and two who knows the real state of mind she carried throughout her life. sometimes the elderly can act bipolar and mentally challenged due to the brain growing old and at 80yrs old she is at that stage she may even do it if she had to pay to me whether if was free or not a person in thier right mind wouldn't act because that is a little crazy to do just because its free

I don't pay for heat - I live in a large apartment house and the cost of heat is included in my rent. I haven't had the heat on in my bedrooms in more than a dozen years - I can't stand steam heat. I don't use it even though it's "free".

maybe she's lonely and only gets to talk to the man who fills up the oil. some elderly people go to the bank just to talk to the tellers or CSRs, it's sad actually.
