What is the stigma about wearing patchouli? Someone made a reference to this at work and they said no one here wears but i think some of their dates might. They both then laughed and i didn't get it.

Patchouli is associated with hippies, people from cultures other than narrow white stiffs, and "earth mother" lesbians. Put your mind to it, you can think of the people these gossips were referring to - it will be anyone outside their small comfort zone.

I wear Patchouli all of the time and most everyone gives me compliments on it. Once while I was working a old lady said,"I smell moth balls." I looked her in the eye and told her it must be me. She shut up quick. I love the smell and don't wear much of it at once because it can be a bit strong. It is much nicer to me then sweet flowery perfumes.

Patchouli, in my experience, was always associated with lesbians, especially in their older years...mature, shall we say.
I don't care for the scent as it reminds me of incense.
It may smell differently on different people.
I'm not sure what they were alluding to....
