He's too liberal for the conservative base of the Republican Party, and too conservative for the liberal base of the Democratic Party. He would win a general election easily because the moderate voters would overwhelmingly choose him, but he can't win a nomination from either party.

I've always liked him and would have gladly voted for him in 2000 instead of Bush, but 'twas not to be, I guess.

He killed his moderate base by backing the president's Surge policy and embracing the Iraq war. He killed much of his conservative base by pushing that horrible immigration law. Finally, when Fred Thompson, stabbed McCain in the back by pulling his endorsement of McCain, and declaring himself a candidate pulling from the same audience as McCain ... it was the end for McCain.

Two self-inflicted bullet wounds and one by a friend.

He'll never get my support because he's a corrupt politician who was involved in the Savings and Loan scandals in the 80's. He was a member of the Keating 5.

He's old and comes across as somewhat of a self embittered person. But more than anything, the manufactured love affair he created with Bush during the 2004 election hurt him with a lot of people who had previously respected him as a "maverick."

I happen to like McCain, but my theory on why he doesn't have more support . . . because he is a republican without a strong pro-life stance and because of his age.

I like McCain but he is old and an 'insider'. He has been in DC for too long.

Because too many of us in Arizona were insulted when he told us that we wouldn't pick lettuce at $50/hr; which is why we needed to provide amnesty to illegals. When he was called on it, he proceeded to ignore the issue.

Because he is a liberal. How he calls himself a Republican, I have no idea. The Dems don't like him because he is a Repub, the Repub don't like him because he is a lib.
