My husband and I plant everything in containers with Miracle-Gro potting soil which already has plant food added to it.
We add Osmocote slow-release fertilizer to the top few inches of the potting soil and then water well. ALWAYS read and follow the directions on the fertilizer bottle.
Each spring we add new Miracle-Gro potting soil on top of the old potting soil and add Osmocote. Mix it in and then water well.
