Another way to look at a problem like this would be to split up the number 2 to have 1 and 3/3, which represents the same quanitity, but now you have it in an equivalent fractional form to subtract nicely:

2 - 1 1/3
= 1 3/3 - 1 1/3
= 2/3

The same can be done for the second problem:

3 - 2 3/4
= 2 4/4 - 2 3/4
= 1/4

I hope that helps!

2- 1 1/3 = 2/3
You might want to think 2 = 6/3 and 1 1/3 = 4/3 so 6/3-4/3 =2/3
3- 2 3/4 = 1/4
3= 12/4 and 2 3/4 = 11/4 so 12/4-11/4 = 1/4

so you can convert 2 to 6/3 and 1 1/3 to 4/3
and get 6/3-4/3 and get 2/3

and 3 to 12/4 and 2 3/4 to 11/4
and get 12/4-11/4 and u get 1/4

2=6/3
1 1/3=3/3+1/3=4/3
so..
6/3-4/3=2/3

3=12/4
2 3/4=8/4+3/4=11/4
so...
12/4-11/4=1/4
