.....to you as a child, that you have remembered and actually made use of as an adult?

My father said, "Watch everything that I do. Take the things you like and take away the things that you don't like from me as a father and use them to raise your own children."

Yes, I told Buttery Biscuits that I'll admit and you should all keep it in mind.

I hate to say it but I don't think my mother told me anything that I was able to take with me as an adult except for labor. It gets worse before it gets better.

I have no positive recollections, lived in a dysfunctional family.
Your father's advice was wise.
Our children used to tell us they weren't going to make their children adhere to certain standards-like eating vegetables and set bedtime, but we find they have kept ideas that make sense to them and are experimenting or discarding those they are unhappy with.
That's exactly how it should be.

aww what your father said is very cute! i like that ...

2 things come to mind for me .... my mother always says "if your going to be late ... dont go at all" and now as an adult i am NEVER late to anything!

another thing she always told me was "dont ever let a man laugh at you" (meaning dont let a man make a fool of you) - and as an adult that has always stuck with me.

very good question!

"Adults don't want to be bothered by bad kid"

My father used to tell me as a child and I REALLY learned to agree with him as I grew to adulthood.

LOL! My mom always told me "Do as I say not Do as I do!" I get it now that I'am older and have kids! I tell mine the same. We all have bad habits that we don't want to pass to our children! GOOD QUESTION!!
