You could simply delete an offensive answer period and if you don't like a certain question just don't answer it. Just an idea.

Thats the idea though. It would discourage bad answers and at the same time encourage thoughtful answers.

How is deleting an answer you disagree with worse than reporting it?
The poster knows it's not going to get best answer anyway.

I think that's a wonderful idea and certainly a lot fairer than what's been taking place.

You do know, you just violated the Yahoo Answers TOS,

By posting this question in the " Politics " section.

This question has nothing to do with politics.

It should have been posted in the :

" Yahoo Products " ......... " Yahoo Answers " section.

.

Seeing how even you violated the Yahoo TOS, now you know why people get reported so much.

.
No I don't think a delete button is a good idea.

I did read a post where someone suggested that only level 3 or 4 and above be able to report abuse.

That seems reasonable to me.

It would atleast put the responsibility on long time users.

And, no, I didn't report your question.

But legally i could have !!!!!!!!

EDIT:

It is a violation of the TOS, to carry on a conversation in Yahoo Answers.

Ive never seen so many people complain about a free service before in my life.

If people do not like the rules here, then don't come here.

It seems Yahoo has a comment section. That is one I shall research. How violations can come down for differences of opinion? How the reports generate a suspension?

But what I have just learned that beyond possible solicitation, fraud add chatting to the list. These posts have already begun presenting members with notices for this today.

no because people would just delete answers they disagreed with.

I think we should just get rid of the report button. Period.

The thumbs-down is enough of a sign as to someone's disagreement with your answer.

EDIT: Jeeper... the question was put into politics because it is over here where people have been randomly suspended, hence her asking the question over here about violations and guidelines. I'm sure she wanted opinions from people she actually talks to.

That might work, but I doubt it will ever be implemented.

What Yahoo is doing is truly reprehensible. Let's say someone posts something on YA! that some people disagree with and they get a violation. Too many violations and you get EVERYTHING deleted, including all your emails, pictures, blogs, etc. I use Yahoo services just for fun, but I would NEVER rely on them for anything more than that. NEVER use an email account with Yahoo, unless it's just temporary. They are just too flaky and unreliable.

Here are some questions that were reported, but never got deleted. Do you see a pattern?

When I run out of douche, should I just use George W. Bush instead?

A "thumbs down" blocks the person from reading answers already.

A better way to resolve this would be to tolerate the opinions of others.

Offensive language (vulgarity) is objective and easy to enforce.

That would be abused. People would delete everyones answer who has opposing views. Good idea though!!

i could have enjoyed wikipedia and google plenty extra. regardless of what Yahoo! could choose for to think of, Y! solutions is extra approximately socializing than offering precise solutions to questions. i could estimate that 80% of the stuff written right it rather is idiotic nonsense, or in simple terms incorrect. (ninety 9% in R&S)
