I just saw this question posted as a poll on my local new's website and was wondering what your thoughts were.

Should people with criminal records be recruited into the military?

For minor crimes, yes. For more severe crimes, no. It costs about $30,000 to train one military member. Inviting hardcore criminals to join would be a waste of money, because they'd probably get kicked out in no time for committing another crime.

Since "people with criminal records" includes everything from spitting on the sidewalk (where it violates city law) to murder, I'm going to have to say yes however some limits have to be placed on how bad the crimes can be. I think a reasonable cut off is no convicted felons.

Depends on the record and the individual since his record. A drug dealer or murderer who just finished serving his sentence who goes down to the recruiting center should be turned away, but if it's been a while and he's been clean since, sure, why not?

I think we should clear out the criminals on death row, drop them into a war zone and leave them there. IF they survive, they can have the freedom to live THERE forever. Whatever weapons they used to commit their crimes would be the only weapon they get to take them with them. And no free lunch, they can eat berries and dirt for all I care. I, for one, am sick of prisons full of criminals eating better than a lot of families in this country.

I am sick of people being denied education because they can't afford college while these morons in prison get free educations.

I am sick of my family not being able to afford health insurance while the criminals are constantly going in for health checks. Believe me, I live near a maximum security prison and a hospital. The hospital, and I use the term loosely, does not deliver babies. So can you guess who their primary focus is on? Sure, the prisoners because it is guaranteed income from our tax dollars every time one of those bastards gets his balls checks.

Don't get me started!

Depends on their crimes. People say "yes" quite easily because they despise them despite not even knowing them, and wouldn't mind seeing them risk their lives... which is, quite honestly, not a very "noble" way of thinking. It also doesn't take into consideration anyone else; if someone declared war on your country, would you want their military full of people who are impulsive killers coming into your country?

My answer definitely depends on what their crime was. Minor crimes, then yes.

I think it would depend on the severity of the crime. This cannot be solved using a blanket statement.

Yes, maybe a little tough love will straighten them out. And best case scenario is they are not preying on us while they are in there.
