that is really sad...i hear this crap on the news all the time. i look at my 4 month old and wonder how anyone could ever be so mean to somthing so small and helpless. it didnt ask to be born to them. it wasnt the babies fault! it makes me cry when i hear stuff like this. i just hope my children understand how lucky they are to have two parents that love them and protect them. poor little babies.
I wish i never would have read this thread...it is all i can think about now.
That poor baby was probably scared, and crying and in pain...

It is very difficult to get a murder conviction, and its even harder when the victim is a child. Juries don't want to believe that the killer intentionally killed the child, and so prosecutors generally plea bargin a lesser charge to make sure the perpetrators serve at least SOME time.
I do agree that social services dropped the ball here, but of course that depends on the laws in that state. Here in Arkansas, they can put you in jail while your pregnant if you are doing drugs, and if a baby is born with drugs in his or her system, the child is immediately put into care. Not all states have this strict of rules, and often social services is so overwhelmed they don't use the best judgement on which children to remove, and which ones to leave in the home.

I agree, that's a ridiculous sentence. Where I used to live, a few months ago there was a 16 year old girl who didn't want her parents to know she was pregnant so she gave birth to the baby in her garden at night time, she took baby inside afterwards and baby was crying and so she hit the baby's head repeatedly against a table to stop it. I realise the girl must've been in a lot of distress, but this act was so selfish. What makes it worse is that she was given a suspended 2 year sentence. Disgraceful.

I agree that they should have gotten more time. We had a situation i my town involving a 2 year old child and her parents. The child survived. The parents found the child unresponsive in her bed at 2pm. Who waits until 2 in the afternoon to check on their child if they haven't woken up from their night time sleep yet!!!?!?!! But anyways, they took her to the hospital and they ended up finding drugs in her system. One drug was an anti psychotic drug and the other was methamphetamine (sp?) The parents claim they have no idea how she got it in her system and they don't use drugs...right....This case is still under investigation/trial I believe but I know the children have been removed.

It certainly sounds like the social service workers screwed up on that one. As for the sentence, presumably the judge made the decision based upon how big of an influence drugs were in the event - perhaps he felt the anguish of loosing a child, and five years in jail would be enough to get them off of the drugs and reformed.

This kind of news makes my blood boil, How can a person be locked up for 10 years for robbery and then give someone a 5 year sentence (be out in 2-3 years) for this crule murder of a very young innocent child!!! Yes and I think all babies born with drink or drugs in its system needs to be instantly placed in care and up for adoption, as the mother cannot give up these discusting habits whilst pregnant, she certainly wont now the baby is born and will be unable to care for it properly. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its shocking isn't it some people shouldn't be allowed to have children , 5yrs for killing a child isn't long enough on the other hand though when there new inmates find out what thay have done ,well you can only imagine what some might do and it will serve them both right.

It makes me feel sick and I feel so distressed when I read or hear about abuse to defenceless, helpless babies and children. I just don't understand HOW someone could hurt any baby or child!!! I find it disturbing that courts only value a childs life at 5 years!!!! People responsible for child crimes should pay and that means life in prison - punishment, being isolated to think about their crime but also no way of having any more children!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG yea thats insane!!! those ppl should never have kept their child let alone only get 5 years for murdering it. There need to be stronger laws for this type of crime. Wouldnt someone who had murdered an adult have gotten more time in jail? and fines? what about ppl who defend themselves and accidentally kill someone? they go to jail and can be sued! This country seriously needs a good reform and a trip back to morality
