There is a really cool Frank Black song called The St. Francis Dam Disaster that details a big flood in the county that I'm from. Really awesome tune, it actually got me to ask about the story. I had no idea it happened, long before my time. That's the first one that comes to mind, but there are many, and even in another context where you know something about a historical event and it paints the picture for you. That track War, Edwyn Star I think, does that with the 60s peace movement.

The songs "Winds of Change" by the Scorpions reminds me of the knocking down of the Berlin wall,
"We didn't Start The Fire" by Billy Joel for some reason makes me think of the Cuba Missile Crisis(although it does address other world events)
"What's Going On" by Marvin Gaye reminds me of the Vietnam War, probably because it is about the war.
"One More Day" by Diamond Rio reminds me of 9/11

'Woodstock' ~ Matthews Southern Comfort, 'Voodoo Chile {slight return} ~ Jimi Hendrix', and 'With A Little Help from My Friends' ~ Joe Cocker all make me think of 1969 Woodstock.

'When the Levee Breaks' ~ Led Zeppelin I now associate with Hurricane Katrina.

'Desert Angel' ~ Stevie Nicks makes me think of both the fall of the Berlin Wall {"And then the wall came down"}, and the Gulf War {which it was written about}.

'Waiting for the Wheel to Turn' ~ Capercaille evokes the Highland Clearances of the 1700's for me.

Bishop Allen have a really great song about the American Civil War, specifically an engagement between two war ships (don't ask me for details, American history isn't my fortay) called "The Monitor". Here's a really bad quality video of them playing it live. The album version is much better.

O-H-I-O by CSNY is an authentic recap of the events at Kent State.

Pride (in the Name of Love) by U2 is a moving tribute to Dr King's walk and work.

The Wall makes me refer to the fall of the Berlin Wall and Pink Floyd's promise in the 80's not to play it until it fell!
