Although my wife's father performed fuel calculations for the original Apollo landing, I'll spare you that speech. Instead, I will encourage you to watch two programs. The first show is called Conspiracy Moon Landing that it currently showing on the National Geographic Channel and it pretty much obliterates all of the popular conspiracy theories.

I would also encourage you to watch a movie called Capricorn One. Made it 1978, it is a fictional story about a fake mission to Mars. Although it is a science fiction story, it is a good example of how utterly impossible it would be to fake a moon landing for any length of time.

12 men walked on the moon from 1969 to 1972 and we have neither the resources nor the technology to pull off that big of a hoax for so long. Hundreds of thousands of people have worked on the space program. It would be far easier to put someone on the moon than to try and fake it and keep it secret for nearly 40 years.

The landings came at a time when our space program was ultra competitive with the former Soviet Union. Remember how big of a deal it was when Sputnik was put into orbit? They had the technology to monitor our moon shots and transmissions. Don't you think they would have called us out if they had evidence that it was all fake?

Perhaps the most definitive proof of our trip to the moon is what we left behind. For the last 35+ years, scientists have been beaming lasers to the moon and measuring the return times. How are they doing this? The beams are reflected back by equipment left on the moon on at 3 different locations.

Case closed.

Someone has set out to deceive you in the hope of making money.

This hoax is utterly typical of a US phenomenon. It ignores the fact that there is a "rest of the world" and the fact that the "rest of the world" is not actually all living in mud huts and going about in grass skirts. The plain fact is that if the Apollo missions had been faked, scientists and engineers outside the USA who do not give a tinker's damn for the USA (and might have actively disliked it) would have shouted "fake" immediately, way back in 1969.

Believe it or not, the "rest of the world" then had functional telescopes, functional binoculars, functional radio receivers and functional radar systems which were all perfectly capable of detecting the Apollo spacecraft as it orbited the Earth before setting off. Some of the radar and radio systems could have tracked the craft at least part of the way to the Moon.

The radio receivers could have detected at least the general direction of transmissions from the Moon. Radio engineers have been able to do this since before the First World War, it is not difficult. If the signals did not come from at least the general direction, thousands of radio amateurs and professionals around the world would have seen it at once.

Anyone who says the Moon landings were a hoax is either a fool or a fraud. The time for argument is long past, it is time for telling the truth. This fraud is perpetrated by certain persons, notably a former television type person in the knowledge that it is a money maker for him. He may even believe it.

Every shred of so called evidence advanced by these frauds has been refuted so many times that it can only be called lies. However they keep repeating this "evidence" as there is always a new audience of the ignorant. There truly is a sucker born every minute.

In one case the fraudsters have been caught altering the sound tracks of digital versions of Apollo mission footage. So not only do they deliberately misinterpret existing evidence, they manufacture faked evidence. In this they are one step ahead of creationists who merely lie about the existing evidence.

As certain as the Challenger exploded, killing 7 astronauts, and as certain that the Columbia burned up while returning to the Earth's atmosphere... you can be assured that the United States DID actually land on the moon.

I think we're going to the moon because it's in the nature of the human being to face challenges. It's by the nature of his deep inner soul... we're required to do these things just as salmon swim upstream.

Where as you *think* that the landings were faked, I can *prove* to you that they were absolutely real. There's a huge difference between subjective opinion and scientific fact. It's a scientific fact that the landings happened. There is substantial, incontrovertible evidence that proves that the landings were real, and yet there's absolutely no evidence to the contrary (bad science doesn't count as evidence). Read my source, which refutes all of the "evidence" in favor of a conspiracy.

Edit: democracynow's answer is a perfect example of the ignorance of the Moon conspiracy theories. The amount of radiation that the astronauts received when they traversed the Van Allen belts wasn't much worse than what you get in a medical x-ray. The astronauts spent about an hour in the belts, and were already partially protected by the spacecraft itself.

Why would they want to disprove the people who reckon it never happened? It isn't their job and it isn't their problem.

Since you give no reason for your question or your doubts, the simple answer is, no, they did not fake either of the two moon landings in 1969, nor any of the other four.

Apart from the fact that the Japanese have actually taken shots of the moon lander support bases still on the moon havce nothing to do with it right?

Because once someone is into a conspiracy theory, not even having their silly little noses rubbed into absolute proof of what happened, they will still find a conspiracy.

Yes, we know, the Japanese are just helping the Americans out and have also faked their pics. Even though NASA or any other USA authority really couldn't care less about the conspiracy theory. They know the landings took place.

In total 750,000 people world wide were involved in the project. Including the use of radio telescopes in the UK, Australia, and in South America, who plotted the course, could pinpoint the craft's exact position in space, and were a bunch of foreigners. OK, so NASA bribed 750,000 people. But do you not think that at least one of them, lying on their death bed years later, would not be able to stop themselves spilling the beans.

hi ,my name is igor bogdanov and i just want to say that the moon landing in 1969 is genuine.i then was the head of the space russian agency and we were closely watching the americans, especiaaly on the days before and after the landing,we did observe that their lunar landing was real using our best telescopes at the time.sadly, they did it before we did.sorry for all the conspiracy supporters but the soviet union would have spoke out if this would have been a monumental farce to people here on earth.

Don't you just love conspiracy theories - and the film Capricorn 1 didn't help - but I am pretty sure that the moon landings went ahead. At least the rocket was plotted by the Jodrell Bank radio telescope at the time and they confirmed the landing (which was where Houston was telling us ) and I sat up all night watching it live on TV.

Look up the cost for the Apollo program. Then think of how many billions it would cost to build and launch a "fake" rocket which we all watched, then pay thousands of scientists for years to keep quiet and to also pay all those people to continue to keep "making up" these stories 30 years later. . Seems that would cost many many billions to pull a hoax off. IT's CHEAPER TO BUILD THE REAL ROCKET!!!

My wife's uncle was on the team which built the antenna which Armstrong placed on the moon. He said he can still send a radio signal and listen to it "ping" 2 seconds later.

Or maybe he's one of those thousands of people who were paid millions each to keep making up those stories.

Look, you can do science with the data brought back. I HAVE done science with data from project Apollo!
It would have been more difficult to fake than it was to go to the moon!

Yes, the morons who bang on about a hoax have been shown up for the truly lamentable idiots they are on many occasions. For a good debunking, check out Phil Plaits' Bad Astronomy web site!
