Q. How Do I Care for My Baby After His Circumcision?

A. After your son's circumcision there will be either a visible incision or a plastibell, which is a small plastic ring.
Three or four times a day, you will need to clean the area with warm water. Soap is not necessary. If you were given a peri-bottle at the hospital this is an excellent way to apply the water. Try to avoid getting the umbilical stump wet while cleaning.

At each diaper change, you will want to apply a small amount of petroleum jelly. Make sure that the petroleum jelly is pure, without perfumes or other additives. If your doctor sent you home with an antibiotic ointment you will want to use this as directed.

It takes about ten days for the scab over an incision to fall off, and about the same amount of time or a little longer for the plastibell to fall off. Be sure not to pull on the plastibell as it can cause soreness and bleeding. After the scab or plastibell falls off, no further care is needed outside of normal good hygeine. If the plastibell does not fall off after two weeks, contact your health care provider.

You will also want to call your health care provider if you notice any of the following:

swelling
bleeding (other than just a drop or two)
foul smelling discharge
difficulty urinating
fever
black or blue discoloration
consistent redness that appears suddenly and does not disappear after a few days

No baby wipes... That'll sting.

Keep the circumcision area well moistened and protected with Polysporin or Vaseline...a good coating. Use lots.

If you must clean the wound area because of a dirty diaper, you're much better off to very, very gently dab with a clean, warm cloth. Don't wipe it.

If you keep it very 'lubed up' with Polysporin or Vaseline, this won't be much of a problem.

It should have gauze on it, and petrolium jelly also. When the gauze falls off you can leave it off. But from now until its well healed keep it coated in the jelly.

you dont want to wipe it with the wipe, just dab a little if you have to. The petrolium jelly keeps the moisture of the pee off him.

Google how to care for it.

If you use dispoasable wipes I would rinse the soaps out first as they may burn.

try to stay clear of that area for one week. keep the ointment on everytime you change his diaper, i wiould take a hot sopy rag and ring it out OVER the area so nothing actually touched it...then rinse it really clean with water.
