Yahoo says i need to down load IE defender to find and remove the problem. When I down load IE defender it says I have some Trojan virus and malware problems, but Norton says different. My Internet surfing is completely slowed and I get a Microsoft warning every 30 seconds to fix the problem. I only run into slowing problems and rerouting to different sites on the internet. When I'm offline, I have no problems or slowing. My Norton Protection center says all is secure but my HP Total Care Advisor says it does not have a anti virus programm installed and that the fire wall is off. The norton and hp care used to work together but now its not in sync. Any ideas whats going on?

i just got this virus a couple days ago! i had a heck of time trying to find something to remove it. try SUPERAntiSpyware, it caught IE defender on my system and removed it for me and its free. i also tried the removal instructions from one of those forum websites but they were complicated and i didn't get the virus out. try superantispyware, it works and its really easy, you just wait for it to scan your system.

ad-ware works fine too. i used that too. ad-ware finds a lot of tracking cookies also that supersntispyware sometimes misses, but if IE defender is the only bothering you, superantispyware works really well.

If there is a sudden drop in connection speed, there is a good chance your computer is infected with spyware/adware. If you are also experiencing unwanted rerouting to other websites then there is no doubt that yo have been infect with spyware. Antivirus programs do not protect against spyware. You mentioned "Internet Defender." Do you mean Windows Defender? Windows Defender is a free antispyware program for Windows XP SP2 and Windows Vista. The program was created by Microsoft. I highly recommen trying Spybot Search & Destroy and Lavasoft's Ad Aware. Both are good free antispyware programs. You can find them at www.filehippo.com. Unlike antivirus programs and firewalls, you can and should install more than 1 antispyware program. What one program misses the other program can catch.

As a rule, you should never have more than 1 antivirus and/or firewall installed on a computer. I suggest to turn of your HP Total Care Advisor.

Norton is not 100% accurate. No anti virus is 100% accurate. They can all generate false positives and false negatives. If one trusted anti virus says it found a virus, but another didn't, you can usually trust that there is a virus.

If you're getting a warning about being infected from Internet Explorer, and not a trusted anti virus program, you've been infected with adware. Norton won't always catch adware, and Norton definitely won't catch it if you didn't have Norton up to date.

IE Defender is not a trusted anti virus program. They just want you to pay for IE Defender.

The Answer that explained that Norton is not always 100% accurate is CORRECT!!!

To get a 'second opinion' (and FREE fix should there actually BE something there) use this on-line scanner:

http://support.f-secure.com/enu/home/ols.shtml

I use it all the time to back up my on-board anti-malware arsenal. It's ranked second on the net of the On-line scans only behind McAfee (which is no better than Norton!)

As already stated, Yahoo just wants to grub your money. Don't waste it on that garbage! ;)

Spybot Search & Destroy and Ad-Aware (both FREE) have always protected my computer just fine along with Avast AV and the Hardware firewall in my Router. If I weren't getting ready to switch OSes I'd install Comodo Firewall as a software one to replace the one in SP2 and go with my Hardware one for maximum protection.

Get Comodo (Free) here:

http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Get SS&D here:

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/

Ad-Aware:

http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware

Norton is REALLY a resource hog and it is NOT what it USED to be! If you want to get it off your puter use the Add/Remove Programs Option and then clean up all the files it leaves behind with this Registry Cleaner:

TweakNow RegClean (FREE)

http://www.tweaknow.com/RegCleaner.html

Then install Avast AV:

http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

It's free, but you must register it to continue to get updates. It also has a paid version, but the Free one does just FINE!!!

These are the best free progs out there and they are just as good and sometimes even better than paid progs.

Just REMEMBER that all the anti-malware progs in the world aren't going to do you a bit of good if you don't KEEP them UPDATED and scan with them at least weekly. I check for updates every day when I boot up and scan DAILY just before I shut my computer OFF to make sure it stays CLEAN! ;)

I hope this helps. Good Luck!!!

You have been tricked by IEDefender. IEDefender is a rogue anti-spyware program. IEDefender uses deceiving tactics different from other fake anti-spyware programs circulating the Web. IEDefender uses all means necessary to damage your computer and trick you into purchasing the full IEDefender program in order to remove your supposed threats. IEDefender is able to hijack your browser and redirect you to IEDefender’s homepage; displaying messages using your search engine's name, giving you IEDefender as a solution to your spyware problems. IEDefender can also display fake security alerts and annoying pop-ups to mislead you. Although this villain may seem legitimate, IEDefender should NOT be trusted and should be removed immediately. Here you can find the the instructions to remove IEDefender.

Be glad you asked-

Once downloaded, 'IE Defender' is hard to get rid of and can cause you a lot of headaches!

'IE Defender' is a malware 'rogue program' which tries to confuse you with it's name so closely resembling that of the legitimate Microsoft "Windows Defender" program (which is very legitimate)...

Hope this helps.

Use protection,
your computer will thank you.
