I know some people that use it and like it, they dont get their periods at all. My personal expierence however, I hated it. I gained weight when i was on it and i couldnt lose it, but as soon as it wore off i lost the weight right away. But when i got off it, I bled for 8 months straight despite hormone shots to get it to stop, eventually it did. well whatever you decide to do, good luck.

For one the shot HURTS. I had a tetanus shot that was painless compared to the Depo shot. Also, I got really fat out of no where with Depo. It doesn't always stop your periods, sometimes will make them much heavier. Your skin gets more sensitive in the sun. I would say take the BC pill where you only get 4 periods a year or you can take the regular BC pill. There are 3 "active" weeks and one week (the 4th week) with no hormones. If you just skip that last week you won't get your period and you wont have 1 large dose of hormones that make you go crazy! The hormones will be spread out more and be more balanced. And yes, it is safe to skip that last week. I did it for years before the new brand of pills came out.

I hated it. I gained weight that I am still having a hard time losing. I had NO sex drive at all and my depression and anxiety were horrible. I didn't have a period the whole time on it or for 6 months after it should have worn off. My cycle is still not regular and I haven't been on anything for almost 4 years now.
I had friends that had little problem with it other than the weight gain but others bled the whole time. It really depends on the person.

I would never ever recommend this to anyone.
TOO many women suffer from this shot, many are still suffering even after getting off of it. The negatives far outweigh the one and only positive of getting the shot.
I was on it, and it was horrid. I'm off of it, and a lot healthier and happier than I was on the shot.
PLEASE research and get first hand experiences about this.
Check out the reviews at http://www.rateitall.com/t-330-birth-control-methods.aspx and google "depo provera lawsuit" before considering this.

Physically it has been known to cause weight gain (like oral contraceptives....) and it also has a high risk of hair loss, depleting bone density, spotting, non-stop bleeding, excrutiating headaches, the list just goes on and on. My family doctor warned me against having the shot. But everyone's different.

Depo-Provera is pretty hard core as a medication. I don't understand why you'd use it rather than standard birth control.... except that it works for several months, so you don't have to work hard to remember to take it daily...

I gained weight, major hormone swings, anxiety, and the worst insomnia. Funnily enough all of these symptoms went away when I got off of it.

I gained weight on it and it also made me feel emotionally void. I wasn't interested as much in sex or any type of psychical interactions.
