How honest are local U.S. government officials compared to local government officials in other countries?

If you have lived in both the U.S. and at least one other country, please give your impressions about how honest local officials in the U.S. are compared with local government official in the other country or countries in which you have lived.
While those who have lived only in one country have opinions, I would like to hear from those who have had direct experience.

What countries? After all, some are far far worse, and yet others about the same as us.
